original Burst vs Historic ... Sorry, but...

Then there are the guys like me who don't give a flying F**k about PAFs or old bursts. If I scored a burst at a yard sale, it would be on ebay tomorrow, and I know damn well if I found a paf in the mud, I would crush it in a 40 ton press just to see that priceless look on some anal vintage homo's face, because PAFs are pretty worthless to me, and very low on the food chain, they have no grind or percusive bark that I need. I don't need any of those overpriced artifacts to be me, I spent years perfecting a rig that allows me to go from lean to mean using just my fingers and pick attack, and occasionally a twist of an amp knob. It ain't the weapon, its the training. :dude

I don't take any offense at being called particular, I am & I'll wear that badge proudly!!! I'll admit to all of you I had a great sounding old burst that I, depending on my mood, miss a lot because of what I went thru with that guitar. It got to a point where I was keeping it for sentiment rather than function. And I would much rather think of myself as a player than as a collector anyway, much cooler in my book. I know I would miss it a lot more if I didn't have my 99', that for sure.

Yeah, I'm a vintage dude's worst nightmare. I tried countless times to get "me" out of vintage gear, and it just isn't happening OTHER than the old marshalls. With all the money I pissed away on gear I could have stockpiled some PAFs, but I cant get the bark out of them. The only thing I would use them for is old rush, and most of the 8k fridge magnets out there will do that pretty good. I can see for maybe purist reasons to have one guitar set up for a vintage tone, but I would never use it. Shit, I have my fathers 58 tremolux and early 60s vibrolux here and haven't plugged into them once, not even curious, I don't want to know!!

...If interested, this one may be for sale soon, and of course the pafs wouldn't make good refrig magnets, they're only in the 7k range :lol Seriously though, the paf's sound great and it's very lightweight '99

The picture is in the sun but it's hard to capture the top indoors, I've tried but my camera won't focus as well on the object...

Sure will Rich, as long as it doesn't get thrown into the "Fires of Doom" where there will be weeping and gnashing of paf's :fiend

Nope, I would leave it JUST as you have it, I have enough players to not have to screw with that one, it will stay as it is.

Let's beat this dead horse some more....

I full well expect to join the reissue Les Paul owners club at the next guitar show. I am sure I will have some help looking for the proper LP from some of the forum members who will be down there? There are no Gibson dealers in Tulsa any more. The truth is I bet if I played all of the guitars owned by members of this forum I would not find very many that I didn't like? I also bet I could tweak the few I was not crazy about to where I would like them just fine........except maybe Ed's..........$25000?.............superdistortomofo bridge pickup??.........yeah that would have to go.................stay tuned next week for a full report.............;) :60burst

I'm planning on buying a Historic too!

I was gonna buy both of Ed R's but I only will go $22,000 each. Sorry Ed! Seriously, I've bid on a few on eBay, but those will have to be at or below market value, unless I can check them out personally. I've looked in Dallas at a few, but nothing that moved me. I definitely want an unburst.
Now, on the original/historic deal. Yes the old ones are better in my opinion. 10 times better? Not as playes. But as investments, which any $60-200k instrument should be? of course. They made under 1500 total, many are gone and many more are no longer in original or good condition. They seem to be making tens of thousands of historics each year. They will probably never significantly outpace inflation, although some of the better ones may. A good original brought about $3k in 1975, about 10k in 85 about 30k in 95 and will bring about 80k now. at those rates we're talking about @$200k in 2010. and about $1million in 2023 when I will be 65 years old. Beat hell out of a CD or US Savings Bonds! I DONT see a historic bringing $100,000 in another 20 years. But by then it may sound nearly as good.

Ed has a awsome guitar...and it was 10k in 2000. Given the current appreciation values it more than doubled in one year. I think it's a bargain at $25k. Buy it now before he changes his mind....."who wants to be a millionaire" :lol

Now, you KNOW the world is whacked when RICH wants a guitar with PAFS in it.
Then again, yeah, that guitar really IS THAT nice.

It has nothing to do with the pafs, I remember when sean owned it and he sent a picture of it to me, and I always liked it.
