Old ABR-1s DO sound different...

I respectfully disagree with the stud issue. Now I am on a mission to check every '50's ABR equipped Gibson I come across from now on. I've seen quite a few that have been worn through the plating on the top, and they were brass.

Just look on the cover of BOTB book, the low E stud is worn down to the brass, note it is the same color as the worn saddles.

Dave, you're certainly right about that BOTB guitar. I never noticed that.
If they did indeed use simple screws they cut off, maybe they just used whatever was in stock at the hardware store, and there's different studs out there? Please report the findings of your mission! hogy
