Picked up yesterday from a local dealer. Big chunky neck; feels great. Guitar intonates pretty darn well and plays just fabulously. The sound is devastating; the perfect P90 sound! Pictured with a late 50s Valco-made Oahu. (It's essentially a Supro 1624T in a larger box.)

Thanks folks.

The shop I bought it from didn't know the year of mfg. The SN is "4 4xxx." So I assume it's from 2004 or 2014 or 2024. I've written Gibson to ask them.

Also, came with a card in the case candy:

About Murphy Lab
Murphy Lab instruments use Lacquer redeveloped from the original 1950s formula for a truly vintage look and feel....

No where does it explicitly state that this is a Murphy Lab finished guitar, so I assume this card is simply informational. Anyone know for sure if these cards are just included in most new Gibson guitars? (or at least most new "Custom" Gibsons.)

In your photo the inlays appear to be the current ones being used. Headstock logo appears to be low. The P90s are the new cream color (not the fleshy shade). Based on this it should be a 2024 model.

So it's Used? Did it come with the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) book with Murphy Lab (white-ish, crazing on the cover) which shows the serial number...? If yes, then it's a 2024...

Murphy Lab did not exist in 2004, 2014. Just 'Tom Murphy' aged/painted guitars, which should be specially indicated on a different type of COA.

It's good to call Gibson to make sure if bought used, so you are sure; lest some one passed it off as something it's not, etc.

Ah cool. Yeah, I wasn't sure when "Murphy Lab" became a thing. Guitar was not sold as product of Murphy Lab; I assumed it wasn't; that's why I was a little surprised to see the card in with the case candy. So the COA is just a regular Gibson Custom one with gold-embossed cover. There was no misrepresentation involved.

OK, cool. Looks like a 2024 VOS to me, with mismatched case candy. It happens...

Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging would show more, still, than what I can discern from your pics. Still worth it to get word from Gibson.

Congrats and Enjoy!

I have a 23 hand thought then same thing as a lil Murphy card was in the case candy. I just have the Reg VOS and have my box tag cut out with the serial no and info. As for CoA, it’s the brown one.

Just heard back from Gibson:

Thanks for reaching out. Our records indicate that the serial number 4 4■■■ was used on a 2024 Gibson Custom 1954 Les Paul Reissue in Double Gold VOS finish. The manufacturing date for this instrument would be October 11, 2024.
