Hey all, was at my local shop the other day and came across this 2016 R8 reissue in perfect shape, not a mark on her. I have never seen another LP like this one? She's called "Fool's Gold" burst and the colour is striking, don't even know what to call the colour, but around the outside of the burst has been misted in with gold like a gold top colour.
The back is also striking, only thing I can compare it to is a Collings dog hair finish, it's streaked with a lighter fill colour in the grain. I then played her and OMG, I was sold!! She was well below the price of any other 58 in the shop (maybe because nobody other than me appreciated the strange colour combination and the lighter fill on the mahogany?
Anyway, I'm a sucker for odd and rare finishes and this one is one of the rarest I've ever seen, so she followed me home!!
I've done some research and can only come up with like 3 other LPs in this finish and most were LP customs, not standards, do any of you LP experts here have any more insight into this particular model?? Of course Gibson won't release any run numbers but would love to know how many of this burst were actually made?
So a few pics for your perusal, I'm sure there will be mixed reaction as this is certainly an oddball and will be a love it or hate it guitar, but open to all comments good or bad.
Oh ya, the brown covers were my addition to the guitar, I think they suited the colour much more than the black stock covers!!
Peace to you all!!
