• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Here's the newest addition to the crowd - a 2013 R8 lightly figured. I have no idea what "lightly figured" means ... but I'll take it.

Thanks again to Mark for hooking me up with this wonderful guitar!

Wow that is a beauty... and I'd like to know where they draw the line in designating a top as either an R8 or an R9. This one is easily as flamey as a lot of R9's I've seen.

Congrats, nice score :salude

Thanks! Depending on the angle, the flames really pop and look extremely 3D. I also love the grain and mineral streaks on the top.
Will try to polish the VOS sauce off, though ...

To me that top is as good or even more appealing than many R9s I've seen. Congratulations!

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought when Mark showed me the pictures of this one when he was preparing to upload it to his page. Had to have it!

Took three indoor pics this morning with a crappy camera ...

Nice! I completely understand why you wanted it.

I'm curious, how does it compare tonally to the HM tonewise?

After getting to know her better in the last couple of weeks I have to say that this is by far the best Historic Les Paul I've ever had. More clarity, more transparency, more twang, more definition, more "live" and sensitivity.

Sold the HM & Dave Kushner Custom ... that says it all.

Have to say, though, that the feel of the HM was unmatched! Compared to the Makeover, the 2013 felt kind of cheap-ish, sticky, kind of like a toy.

Another small and - what I initially thought - only cosmetic upgrade happened yesterday: I got a set of Tom Holmes PAF-style covers on Ebay and put those on the Custombuckers.

First of all I was surprised that there is nothing on the baseplate of the CBs ... no PAF-decal, no "wound by", no "Custombucker" sticker?! Whatever ...

I really like the look of the sharp edges. Also, I think I was able to hear a super slight difference in the sound. It seems to be a little bit clearer, more transparent. Nothing you'd hear in a band-context, though, but still interesting.
