• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi all,

I`ve been a lurker for a while, so thought I`d say Hi. I recently picked up my second Les Paul, A Custom Shop `68 RI Custom in triburst. Did I say I have a thing for Customs? Well, I do. I play Historics, Goldtops and always go back to Customs. It must be a large character defect! Hopefully there is a photo of my 2 Customs below. Other than the triburst, I have a `92 Custom Shop LP Custom in antique ivory (the Gibson term: it`s cream) with S400 split block inlays. I got it new from Saul at Center City in early `94 and according to Gibson it was a special order. I`ve never seen another one like it.

Let me be the first say... VERY NICE!!
It may be the lighting, but your 68 Triburst is darking
looking than many I've seen (I like!) and the inlays on
the cream Custom... really cool. Nice pair of ge'tars!
I too like Customs the best. I've had Standards before
but Customs are what I always come back too.

great guitars - your white custom is interesting . is it the lighting or does it not have the last few inlays?

Thanks guys, I feel very lucky to have these guitars.

The color on the triburst in the photo is pretty true to life and yes, it does appear darker than the few others I`ve seen in real life. It`s the reason I was initially interested in the guitar. Well, that and the sound. This things weight in at just under 15lbs and just feels incredibly solid. I love the `57 classics in it, too.

As for the inlays on the cream one, they do finish between the 16th and 17th frets, unlike regular LP Custom block inlays. I`ve contacted Gibson a couple of times about this guitar and all they can tell me is that it wasn`t a production guitar and was a special order - that`s it. Fairly typical for Custom Shop instruments made somewhere off the beaten track in the corner of the factory!

15 lbs.!! That is one heavy guitar! You sure it's 15 lbs.?

They are both BEEEAAUUUTIFUL! That flame on the '68 is fatter than most of those I have seen. That white custom is Randy Rhodesalicious!

Hey! :WELCOME to the forum!

Great guitars you got there.

Yes the Custom with the super 400 inlays were a special order. The Music Zoo had a couple a while back (might still have them).

Would love to see more pics of your 68 custom!

Yes, that would be my crappy typing skills - it is a shade under 11.5lbs, NOT 15. Jeez, what a dockhesd! The cream one is a mere 9.5lbs. No wonder my shoulder hurts.....

Although a few Customs have shown up with S400 inlays after 2000, I have yet to see one from before that. Of course, I`ve probably seen about 0.00000001% of what Gibson produced. Now if I could only find a pristine 25/50 to go with it, Oh and possibly an Artisan and a "The Les Paul" and and and and and.....

I`ll post a few more pics once I figure out how to do it to get them smaller than 10 feet square!

Nice guitars both.

I saw the 15 lbs and thought it must be a typo. No way it's gonna be that heavy.

Cheers!

As for the pictures, make a copy of them on your hard disc and then try resizing them to 640x480 or 800x600 and then resave. Upload the resized pics and that should work.

Here are a few more pics of my triburst Custom. As you can see the digital camera does alter color in a few. My guitar is very close to the color in the top pics, front and back.
