It has been revealed as a '57 model, SN# 7 3142.
(filmed in the 6 Denmark St. flat where the Pistols rehearsed; the guitar talk starts at about 4min)
The current owner doesn't state where Steve got the guitar or when, but I did some further digging and found an interview with Steve Jones with current Gibson CEO J.C Curleigh stating that he bought the guitar from Orange Music (he says they were on Shaftesbury Ave, but it could also have been on New Compton Rd.) Photo evidence first shows the guitar in use 3rd April, 1977 (Screen on the Green, with Syd on bass) which would suggest that he most likely acquired the guitar in March of '77. He claimed in the interview to have paid £800.00 for it at the time, which seems quite high even for '77 prices with VAT accounted for, but it's an interesting anecdote nevertheless.
(quote about the '57 LP buying story at 7:37).
Thought some vintage LP fans/Sex Pistols enthusiasts might get a kick out of the new developments.
Peace,
Will.
