Note rectangular control cavity wire channel. The Mahogany versions would have a drill hole from that area all the way to the toggle rout. Unless they made a mahogany cap which I haven't seen from the 50's.

Me too! I always loved the contrast of the dark back with the gold top. I wonder why Gibson favored the light backs?:hmmCool, I love dark backs! :dude:

Whew! you guys gave me a heart attack for a second... Yes, there is a maple cap that I can see in the cut-out
The clarity and open-ness of the tone says maple cap to me too. Tele-like tones are there on this guitar if you wanna go there...I was REALLY surprised.
