Historic has a fat neck and a different neck joint. Finish is thinner.

Does anyone know if the historic Jnr's and TV Jnr's come with a tortoise shell pickguard? All pics I've seen on the net so far indicate that they only seem to be available with the black guard.

The difference is about $800, and I think all of them come w/ black pickguards, at least I haven't seen any ones w/ a tortoise shell...

2001 LP Jr.

I just got a Historic 01 Jr. It has a huge neck, much bigger than any of my 59 ri"s. It also has the black pickguard, and thin faded cherry finish.. Great player.. Not sure if I'm staying with the dog ear Gibson 90, or changing it to a Duncan Antiquity Dogear.. Only thing I'm having to get used to is the balance of the guitar. They are a little neck heavy. Overall, a great playing, and sounding guitar.

i just got a great deal on a 98 historic TV jr (just a little bit more than the price of a production model). it's a really fun guitar, and i too noticed that it's a bit neck heavy. and the neck is bigger than my R9. also, it's got a black pickguard.

i'm thinking about trying a duncan antiquity p90 too. or maybe a fralin. the stock gibson p90 in there is around 10K ohms, and sounds really gainy. i usually prefer low output pickups, so i'll probably experiment a bit.

On mine the P-90 is louder than any of my 57 classics hummers in my other historics. Haven't noticed the neck heavy trick. Its a real screamer. "Mississippi Queen, do you know what I mean..."

Production LP Jr

Bought one of those a year ago to satisfy my P-90 urge.It might have been my amp, but the production model did not have IMO the JR bark.

I returned it the next day to the dealer.

I tried a double pu/cutaway historic shop model around 1998 at (boo-hiss) GC. THAT guitar was nice, but they wanted too much for it at the time: around $2500.

Not all historic jrs have big necks. I played one in DC friday at southworth's and it had a very thin neck.

I thought it might have been a 60 dc or something. I agree the fat necks are the deal. Gibsons is consistently inconsistant.
