• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

LP Deluxe - Les' name is closer to the Gibson inlay.

I got a very good deal on a 1972 LP Deluxe last weekend, and in my jumping with both feet into the deal, I noticed that the hardware had all been changed. That's ok, I'm swooning over those embossed pickup covers. No breaks in the neck: cool. Refretted, but that's ok, too. What I did notice but decided to reserve judgement on, is that the Les Paul decal (or ink) is way closer to the logo than normal. I looked online, and have seen a couple other examples of this, but in 50 years of looking at Gibsons, have never noticed this anywhere. Any ideas, please?

There's a lot squirrely about this headstock: #1 the beveled edge, #2 the LP sig positio, #3, the size of the space between top keys and the top of the headstock and p0lacement of the logo, and #4 the wrong keys. Period guitars had doublee ring Klusons with a small washer, a la this '74.

However, here is a '71 with a layout closer to yours.

Bob, I appreciate your input an expertise. The 1st pic I posted wasn’t very descriptive. Here are a few that are sharper I don’t think the headstock is beveled, just bad lighting. The space between keys might look odd because of the wrong post plates or ferrules, or whatever they’re called. Yep, the hardware is not correct. I’m going on the assumption this guitar saw some corrosive atmosphere and all of the hardware was replaced. Haven’t taken the parts out but I looked in there, definitely some corrosion. The good news is that she smokes!

Here’s my 72 Deluxe for reference... pop the control cavity open and show us a pic of what’s inside.
