• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Lost switchplate medallion - value?

I lost the switchplate medallion for my 2018 Brazilian Les Paul flame top. I’m wondering how if any it would that affect the value or desirability of the guitar. I’m sick about this, I ordered one but it isn’t correct and Gibson won’t release one. I called Dave’s where I bought the guitar. They said they tried before and Gibson won’t let them release them to the store

I know people get hung up on every little detail on these guitars but I have all the case candy such as the COA booklet including the bill of sale. I’m nowhere ready to let the guitar go so selling isn’t on the table now but eventually as I get older I’ll let it go. Especially if I stop playing out like I’ve done recently. Anyway, I’m curious what you folks think.

Unfortunately most potential buyers look for any excuse to lowball and the fact this is missing will just give lowballers an excuse to offer less. For me I could care less. I took mine off my R8 the second day I had it and put it away with the rest of the COA. If it gets lost, it gets lost. If I ever sell and don't have it I'll discount the guitar $5 from my asking price if a potential buyer makes it an issue. Couldn't account for more than that in the cost of the guitar.

Back in 2014 when I got my first ever Gibson Custom R9 I did not care for the switchplate medallion . So a few days after I got the R9 I showed it to someone and mentioned that I liked the plain black plastic one and the someone said don't touch it as that is how the instrument came from Gibson .Fast forward a few years (2018) the first thing I do when I get a new R series Gibson Custom Les Paul is replace the Custombuckers with my favorite pickups ThroBak SLE-101 + pickups . It's the least kept secret to my recipe for tone -ThroBak

Just advertise the guitars as “weight relieved by 1 ounce”!

If I was a potential buyer it wouldn’t be an issue

Gibson is probably thinking that;
1) if you’re dumb enough to ”lose” one ..you ain’t getting another..
2) someone wants a “spare” to stash
3) they’re not obligated to provide a second no matter how long the whine.
4) sure enough someone/somewhere would use one to try to claim Brazilian authenticity on a bogus guitar
5) could show later if “genuinely “ misplaced

If someone low balled me over it, I would ask them if they would also expect a discount for a Burst if it didn’t have the original receipt or hanger tag.
