Just talked to someone at Seymour Duncan about
Buying some P/U magnets, They said they dont
sell P/U parts.:eek2 :dang :roll
The other guys probably wont either.
Anyway we talked about the difference between
the Seth and Antiquity. They said
the magnet change wouldnt bring it to Seth specs
that there are other differences.
As RICH stated the wire is aged somehow. couldnt
get any details but i think its stretched or something.
The Antiquity is Scatter wound, the Seth is not.
They said the Seth was made with modern
assembly techniques, while the Antiquity is made
in the Custom shop by Hand.

Lindy Fralin will sell magnets. I'm not sure about Tom Holmes, but he might.

Jeez, thats not what Seymour told me. He told me flat out the antiquity is an aged seth. I have come to the conclusion that the entire gear industry lives under the Gibson style "Cloak Of Darkness".

I've also heard that some poeple were able to get replacement magnets from SD. As opposed to RICH's Gibson style "Cloak of Darkness (or confusion)", maybe this might be a case of "who you know"...
Maybe try eMailing Rodney (@SD) directly to ask about what really is or is not possible. From the messages on the SD board it looks like Rodney is using the eMail:

Yeah "who you are" can be a sort of variation of "who you know" but from the other guy's perspective, instead of "who you know" it's "who knows you". :lurk

I rather expect that with the full strength Alnico 2 replacement magnet deal, somebody there might be willing to supply known customers or someone who they are confident is not going to advertise it all over the place.

Then there was "The Who" with their song "Who Are You"... :lolspin

Hey Charlie ya know if the word is to try putting a more reasonable strength Alnico 2 magnet into an Antiquity, and I have heard about doing the swap from a Gib '57 Classic, who knows maybe those weaker magnets from the Antiquitys might work out well in the '57 Classic to tame some of that harshness or that certain unwanted something that some people comment about hearing in '57s, specially in the neck position.
Damn now I think I've got to give this stuff a try... ;)

...Edit... Hey Charlie I'm getting caught up around here and I see this topic has gotten seriously heated up in the Burst area, under the topic "We nailed the old burst tone"... see ya over there.

Allparts??

Has anyone tried using the Alnico magnet Allparts list in their catalogue to do this? They are part number PU 6918-000 in the UK the "trade" price is £2.84, US list is probably close to the same.

In the UK Alparts are handled by Pincotts 0845 345 5951

I whipped out the magnets from some C57s and tried this last night. Definitely more clarity, more thump, just a bigger sound. Definitely worth doing to a neck Antiquity, the one I have is weak, and doesn't properly match the bridge. They're a lot more equal now.

Oh, and you don't have to do anything intrusive to the pups, just loosen the base screws, and slide the magnets.

Oh, and while I was at it I flipped the neck magnet, I've been meaning to try this for ages! :)
