• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just announced by Gibson CS: Korina Explorer & Flying V!

I want one of the Explorers so bad, but just can't pull the trigger at that price. :(

Beautiful looking guitar!
Thank you very much, I had to sell a kidney in Mexico :) No, no kidding, I had to sell a very nice guitar and the seller made me a very nice offer that I couldn't refuse. Sorry for my English, I am from Belgium and I work with the translation of the google master

Hi guys,

mine finally arrived at the other side of the globe and I couldn't be more satisfied. This run definitely produced the most accurate reproduction of Korina models Gibson ever did.
Especially the V has a correct heel joint again after they made it too steep in the historic collection of the early 2000s including the later 50th anniversary model. They're still great guitars, but we reached a different level this time for sure.

Therefore I put the V in the shopping cart at the same day.

Thank you very much, K_L, for wishing me a good top :)

Best greetings!

Two beautiful guitars--wow! They look great! I love them both! Have alot of fun playing them both!
I know these Custom Shop V`s & Explorers are expensive--anyone know how they`re selling w/ the high price tag?

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!

As far as I'm concerned they're selling quite well, especially any Explorer.
Keep in mind that the current run is the cheapest way of getting a new Korina model - The ones from the historic collection from 1994 onwards went for 12-15k (list price), but had lower quantities and a one piece Explorer body on the other hand.

I never knew that the earlier reissues of the Korina V`s & Explorers were priced higher than this year`s release of them. For me, $9999+ is alot of $$$! Glad I have one though! Your V & Explorer both look spectacular!

Yes, most people aren't aware about this fact. And back in those days you didn't loose money through keeping it at the bank so spending this amount was even more a big of a deal.

Suggested retail
1997 Korina Historic: $10,199
2001 Korina Historic: $13,992

Your Explorer looks definitely better, especially under natural light! It's the greatest one I've seen yet. At the end of the day it's no contest, we have to be thankful being that lucky to enjoy those instruments.

Best greetings and Happy Holidays in advance!

Thank you for sharing the prices of the previous Historic Korina Reissues--I never knew they were so high. Maybe the reason they were higher than the new 2021 models might be because they made the Explorers with one-piece bodies, whereas these new 2021 reissues have 2-piece bodies. I ordered mine from Guitar Center`s website as they have a great 45-day 'return policy' & I was concerned that the 2 pieces might not match up very well but was pleasantly surprised, relieved, and very happy when I opened the case for the very first time and pretty much knew that it would be hard to find a 2-piece top that matched as well as the one GC sent to me! I was very lucky! Best greetings & Happy Holidays to you as well! :)

Some of the two-piece Explorers I've seen throughout Europe have pretty obvious splits where the wood has knots next to the seam, you can see half a knot and then the perfect line down the middle of it where the next half of the blank was glued.

I imagine it's just as frustrating for Gibson to sand down and realise what's happened but it's difficult to demand the full retail price when you've got such glaring marks right on the front.

I don't think I'd have even known yours wasn't one piece if you hadn't mentioned it!

I'll have to agree on that, some pieces are - with all due respect - aesthetically four levels under K_L's Explorer.

Same phenomenon can be spotted on many Vs. I admit that a wild and "living" piece of wood also has a specific magic, but some of those simply have to be described as mismatch.

It won't reduce it's musical value of course, some might even be better instruments, but it influences maybe even only subconsciously they way you feel about it.

As far as I'm aware the Murphy Lab, Braz board run were all single piece Explorers, and the V's still two-piece as the originals were.

I've just reached out to Matt at Banker Guitars for a V so I'm all in on the Korina hype right now. For me, the big factor is being fussy about the neck and wanting the finish to check and age with me.
Price obviously helps too but if Gibson would do what I'm looking for then I could have been talked into it.

At 26 I have plenty of time to put some wear on, whereas to get a Gibson V/Explorer with the thinner nitro I'd be looking at €20k+ on a Murphy Lab and hoping no one asks for the Braz paperwork when it passes through EU customs!

I just pulled the trigger on one of the V's. Yes 10k is a lot, but an accurate Historic re-issue of one of these by Gibson is something I never thought I'd own and it's always been a grail. Don't have it in hand yet, just praying it's a good one and not a dud

Congrats, hopefully it's a good one.

Not to piss on your cornflakes, but I still don't understand the pricing on these with EIRW and not BRW fretboard, especially the Explorer with (non-historic) 2-piece body. They're unquestionably less expensive for Gibson to manufacture than a historic LP Std; probably even a SG Std.

To have Korina and BRW I'd look at a PRS McCarty Korina model.
