Jim, John.

All this needs is a handshake behind closed doors.

Not a climb down for either of you, rather an indication of the Men I know you both are.

If you'll both accept a call from me, I'll be happy to mediate, if my genuine affection for you both is reciprocated of course.

I have all the time in the world for you both.

Fuck you and the horse you rode in on....bro.

I obviously made a mistake driving past this place today. With a few notable exceptions, all that's' left is the dross (bro) that posts this shit and has the temerity to call others a tool, cheered on from the peanut gallery my pissants like garywright.

Well, I'm fucking done here too, not that this place has any life left anyway. I know, I won't be missed.

Will the last person here turn the lights off on your way out.
Oh get over yourself.
You are a know it all but I apologize for calling you a tool.
We need you around so do not be put off.

No I don´t think talking about any amplifiers should be excluded from the amplifier area. But the main reason I vistit this site, is for Les Pauls and other Gibsons. When there is another forum specifically dedicated to Marshalls, I would post there if I wanted to get into a lenghty discussion about JB´s mistakes in this case.
I can understand this now..apologies

Well I for one would miss your knowledge.

Well, you might care if you ever came to buy a vintage Marshall.

Given the response to my post, which acknowledged that Joe's video is "entertainment" and not a "history lesson", I can well understand why people have left.

I'll save you any further trouble and join Joe and those many others.
No problem--I only posted the video, as I said, just for fun as i think Joe B is a great guy.

He is a guitar player, not an amp tech & there surely are better resources concerning vintage Marshall amps than the LPF & my guess is that you know that as well!

Peace!

I spoke w Paul and the concern here and there is some disconnect in Joe’s video technically & historically. I still think Joe is able to pick out real detail in sound.

A Les Paul through a cranked Marshall is one of the few great combinations.
Bonamassa I see a a Fender player tho; even when he was dragging the Jube’ around, he had it eq’d and sounding like a gassed up Fender.

wtf.

I'd bet you'd all fail a blind A/B test on the difference between a '67 and '69 superlead. Buncha damn cork sniffers.

some of you have owned and played some of the best, most rare gear, and some I have no Idea. I do know after 40 years of actually caring about this stuff that the subjective stuff is just that.

The video covers the broad strokes fairly well. Difference between JTM45 and 50 rectifyer is what makes a real noteable difference. Chassis? gimme a break.

Joe seemed a little out of it in that video. You can hear it in his voice. Not the usual animated self. So he glossed over quite a bit of details out of just being tired or whatever. Maybe he's just wrong. No big deal.

This is simply amazingly stupid. At one point in time I played for several years in a band, where the other guitarist and I between the two of us, had the following amps: JTM 45 (Late 1965/early 1966), JTM45/100 (1966), 1968 & 1969 Super Leads. So I´ve compared these amps many times, and I can guarantee you, that the differences are real. And yes, I´ve also owned several late sixties 50w amps, one of which I had modified to use a GZ34 rectifier instead of the original diodes. Unfortunately that amp still sounded much more like a 50w than like a JTM 45. I have no idea what you can or can´t hear, but there is no way I would fail a blind test . I know these amps far too well for that.

whatever. I stand by my comment. Yes there are differences, and most people can't tell the difference. You can't hear an aluminum chassis based solely on THAT difference.

My point stands. Nothing about Joe B's video is so wrong for you guys to get your panties in a bunch.

Good points. Not may people if anyone know the nuances of old original Marshalls like F-Hole. And Joe B has to communicate in videos to the average guy/guitarist, not amp nerds. Getting just enough important information in without going down a rabbit hole is a fine line for him to walk.

I despair sometimes.

Let's have a think about who's just walked out of the door.

A geezer who's consistently tried to keep the well piss free, John's done some very heavy lifting on this Forum for years, probably the most consistent defender against the wrong uns that this Forum has had. The examples are legion, do some remembering, or some reading.

When the bar gets lowered, I'd be really disappointed if the real authorities follow it down, ruin for the game awaits.

I walk into a room with 5 figure bags for a block JTM45, I want John with me, I need parts I ask John, I need advice I ask John...notice the word ask - I don't suffer from the notion that the decades of work these authorities have invested to become so supremely informed is mine, nor do I consider that this knowledge somehow passes in an almost osmotic fashion, it doesn't. I trust John, simple as that.

I walk into a different room, different discipline, I want Jim with me, we are really close Friends. Also authorities in our own right on that which binds Us, hard won ground over many decades. I trust Jim, simple as that.

I'm proud to enjoy the company of both of these Men, really proud. I was playing a world class guitar this afternoon that those two men, along with others from this forum, put under my arm for nothing, Gratis. I've got a long memory.

This Forum is quiet, that's on Us. Waiting for something to happen? What's wrong with making something happen, start a thread, make an observation, ask the next geezer down the line how he's doing. Or wave a white flag and let this thing of Ours go down the toilet with a whimper.

We can't afford to lose anymore people.

So let's not.

On a slight tangent, anyone remember Joe B and John's interactions over the years? At odds? are they fuck.

The London Guitar Hang anyone? Hosted by John with Joe , Mike H and other forum members as guests with an Arsenal of Fabulous Marshall's, Block logo JTM45, 18 watter's from every year in every combination ( that 2 x 10, man ). A Tweed Super also present, along with the amp that stole the show as far as my cloth ears could tell - 64 AC15, with one of John's 59 335's - as beautiful as anything I've heard.

RAH - anyone remember Joe playing John's mint 57 Goldtop under battle conditions, went onto the neck in the second solo, sounded like a Jumbo jet taking off.

Mick Ralph's 'Burst, which John owned ,being played at soundcheck by Joe.

Greeny in the carpark, John, Joe, Mike and Richard Henry. Hilarious.

Plenty to boast about there don't you think? And yet has anyone seen that done? I haven't. Sometimes discretion is misinterpreted as something else. When a flag is waved by certain people, I don't need to know the ins and outs, I just need to heed the warning.

That's what's slammed the door on the way out.

As I said earlier in the thread....

FFS.

What?

Why would anyone leave after this exchange?

My skin is technically much thinner because of age. Those little scratches become these ugly big dark red spots underneath the crape.

But the tough old bird still resides below it.

The 'Hole' must remain lest we become the 'Not Whole'.

Or 'Knot Hole' and we all know what happens to those...
