• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is this serial number legit?

Screen Shot 2022-07-28 at 9.34.18 AM.jpgChecking out this SG Junior and the price is good. The serial number doesn't look quite right though. It is supposed to be a '61 and looks every bit the part, but this and the difference in the finish between the body and neck are throwing me.

Guy says it is good, anyone know a good shop in New Jersey that could vet it?

I could be wrong, but that serial number may indicate 1963. It looks legit from the photo.

Is the wraparound bridge the smooth type that's on quite a bit of an angle, or the lightning bolt type that's more horizontal looking?

The pot dates will help figure out the year too. (if they're original)
The neck heal shape helps in figuring out the date, as well.

This guitar should also have "Les Paul Junior" silk screened on the headstock.

Btw, from that serial number range, I'd imagine it has Centralab pots from late 1962 or early 1963.
They would be stamped on the sides of the pots.

134 means Centralab, the next two digits are the year, (ie: 63) and the final two digits are the week of that year...

Yep, looks like a nice early 1963 LPJ. (Or late 62) I've got one just like it. Great guitars!

Here's a helpful link that discusses them.

Here's some pics was told back in 75 it was a lp jr. You think it's a sc jr. Yes the serial # is correct. The numbers on the potentiometers are GBA-811-1053-KAT.

I think that might be a single pickup Melody Maker, (not a SG) modded with a humbucker pickup, black pickguard, and Schaller tuners.

The small headstock shape is a dead giveaway.

The photos of the pots is way out of focus, but the numbers you gave are not the standard CTS codes for vintage pots. (Replaced pots too?)

(137××× is what I'd expect to see on the top of the pots, if they were original)

I have no idea of mods other than the tuners this is the way I got it in 1975 in Madrid Spain. Last time it was played it kicked butt with my European Fender Twin.
