While I use modelers on stage, I ordered a Supro Delta King 10 after listening to some clips. I was wanting 1. Something to just plug into that had more of a tweedish tone. 2. Something lower cost. 3. Something to use as a benchmark as I am having difficulty getting that sort of tones out of my Helix units.

This unit is close to a Fender Tweed Princeton 5f2a, but with reverb and a master.

Musician's Friend had the all-black for $399 on Thursday's Stupid Deal Of The Day; it took considerable discipline to refrain...

Hope you enjoy yours!

Interesting. What is driving you to use a modeler on stage? Having both grown-up with, and learning, guitar using amps that must have been a difficult yet compelling decision.

The Marshall stack (or other amp) image is hard to pass up.

Silent stages.
Been using a modeler since 2009. Was Fractal AXE-FX up till this year. Most the places I play have the Helix as their backline. So at that point, I can take load in/out down to a minimum of just my gear bag and instrument.
I don't get paid for time on load in/out, so I always look to minimalize that time.

Isn't all the fun a LP into a cranked Marshall?

Without that it starts to become work. Which is fine if that is your job.

But when guitar is the hobby...

Oh I do enjoy that, my preference being a JTM 45. But I have a great JTM 45 patch on my Fractal (actually prefer it as I use the power tranny of a 100 watt Plexi ala a Black Flag) and my FRFR is capable of 125DB. So more than enough volume. LOL. Actually that's an advantage to the Fractal gear, you can make things that rarely if ever existed.

While not my primary occupation (music accounts for about 10% of my personal income), I do get paid to play. 2025 will close with 102 gigs/sessions for the year over 43 different dates. If we offer even 30 minutes per a load in or load out (that's 86 total load in/outs), that's 43 hrs saved, that I can allocate to other paying opportunities or time with family and friends.

Supro Delta King 10 update

Well spent a few hours with it. Called my person as I want to send it back. Doesn't do what I wanted. I used the same exact settings as a video with the same guitar. No bueno. Not close. Lot's of post production I guess in that video.

Yeah, what we need is more Mom & Pop guitar stores. It's easy, just stop indiscriminate online buying and focus on local music stores.

Well I have a great mom and pop store here (I consult them), but I ordered from Sweetwater, so no harm no foul.

Why not purchase from the local Mom & Pop store? That's the whole point, support them and they'll be there for you when you need them.

They don't carry Supro. I came across a new one at SW at 100 off and 0% for 4 years,
Believe me, my local mom n pop gets plenty of my business. I have been pretty much a top 10 customer in $ volume since I moved here (yes I have access to their financials as well - remember I consult them. I helped them win NAMM Dealer of the Year one year). One year I was their top $ customer.

Some of the stuff I still have, that I got from the local mom n pop:

Gibson R9, Gibson Les Paul Std Double Trouble (Honey Burst 1 0f 500), CS 57 Strat, CS Tele Thinline w/Bigsby, CS 52 Tele/Nocaster, CS 60s Tele, CS Knotty Pine Tele, a couple MIM Strats, Gretsch Country Gentleman, Gretsch Black Penguin Paisley, Rick 360v64 6, Martin D-18 Authentic, Martin 000-28 EC, Yamaha FSX5, Squire CV 50s PBass, Squire CV 60s fretless JBass, a couple large FRFR speakers, Boss Acoustic Singer Pro etc.

Another mom n pop I support that was local (10 minute drive) to me back when I was in FL: Bass Central. One of the best bass stores in the US.
Items I still have that I got from them:
Dingwall 5 string, MM Stingray 4 string, Spector 4 string.

Actually thinking on it: I don't tend to consider Sweetwater a box store (maybe its because I am in the same state now and I have a great relationship with my sales guy). If I run with that, I only have 2 box store instruments: a Hofner Beatle bass and a Squire CV Jazzmaster (both Stupid Deal of the Days from MF).
Others have come straight from the MFG (Duesenberg, GoldTone, Brian May, Gibson). My Rick 4003 was from Wildwood and the rest were acquired used from private sellers. My 1st good guitar, a 79 Gibson Les Paul Std, I bought new in 79 from a mom and pop. Still have it.

My mom and pop is. Basically they price according to Sweetwater.

As I am a solid customer there, if it's been in stock for a while (I have access to that info), I can get more off. But I use this with the awareness of how their finances are. If they are doing well and it's been there a while, I'll get a break even off that price. If things are slim, I'll get at least Sweetwater pricing.

I have been trying to impress on many, many people that what comes out of my amp and what the audience hears are often vastly different. The same holds true for YouTube demos. The unfortunate truth, however; is that there are billions of dollars spent by amateur musicians that have been duped into believing buying a piece of gear will make them sound better.

Need proof? Look at the Klon. There are myriad cheap pedals that sound exactly the same as a Klon, as has been proven over and over again.

A real guitar player can hit the stage with a Tele and a DR and a BOSS EQ, compressor, overdrive and delay and pretty much rule the world. Yet I play local shows and see $50/gig players with three PRS's, a pedal board stuffed to the gills with pedals of all shapes and sizes and some boutique amp I've never heard of, usually playing way too loud.

As I have espoused over and over and over, most players probably don't need a new amp, just an EQ pedal, but for whatever reason, the vast majority of amateur players and even some pros I encounter are loathe to use one.

If your guitar player shows up with an EQ and a Lehle box, chances are they know their stuff. If they've never used a Lehle box, chances are they haven't done a lot of big shows or worked with pro sound. Little things you pick up on the road.

Chuck
