• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I installed Burstbuckers 61 - sounds VERY phase like/thin - what is the correct wiring?

I have a 2003 Les Paul Classic (no coil split).
Bought a used set of "Burstbucker 61r and 61t".

What I did:
- Each has one RED wire.
I soldered these to the volume pots, to the very same lugs where the stock humbuckers used to sit at.

- Then each of them also has a BLACK and a "SILVER" wire, intertwined / soldered together from the former owner, or from factory.
Those I soldered to ground (back of pots).

(There is also a sleave with a white and a green wire, that I haven't touched, since I think it is just the connection of the coils for option of coil splitting).

RESULT:
Very thin sounding. Not a question of taste.
Sounds like some sort of phase cancellation.

WHAT IS THE CORRECT WIRING?

I found zero videos on the internet showing step by step installing Burstbuckers. Not even a PDF with an explanation / Gibson manual.

Does the thin, phase sound only occur in the middle position when both volumes are on 10, or does each pickup sound thin individually?

Gibson ads say that the 61R has " reverse wound, reverse phase windings to control hum when the coils are split". I would contact Gibson for a wiring diagram or instructions
