I just got ahold of a 65 SG Special with P90's and was wondering how do I date them? I pulled one of them apart and could not find any markings on them.

Thanks!

There aren't any markings on the baseplates or bobbins. I'll describe the ones in my '64 Special, so at least you'll know if they look right:

Moulded black bobbin with a seam down the middle, thin maple spacers under the magnets, stamped steel baseplate with two dimples, large philips head screws in the bottom, one of which also secures a solder tag for the braid. The wires exit through a pale brown rubber grommet. The inside of the cover has UC - 452-B moulded into it.

Hope that helps,

I havent found any way to date them. I have some from '50s gold tops and they look just like '60s. The only way I know of is to know what guitar they came out of.

Also for a brief while in the late 60's/early Seventies (damm where's Big Al when you need him!) they had Clear plastic Bobbins
