Historic LP Jr Question

I'm looking for info on this...I have a 2018 '58 TV Jr Historic and the neck is painted so that the color comes right up to the edge of the fretboard all around, even at the butt end, completely covering all sides of the rosewood. I've seen this on 60's Custom Color Firebirds (originals and Historics) but have never seen this on an LP Jr. For some reason they did this on a batch of TV Historic versions a couple years ago. Mine is a 2018 and I've seen a couple others from around this time period that also sported this. But it was short lived, earlier ones, and the new ones don't sport this. Just curious as to what the reason for this was, since it wouldn't be historical accuracy.

Dealer request, simulate binding, or just a goof maybe. My 2010 is not like that.

well it's not a one-off. I saw a few other TV models around the same time like this.

They actually did that on some white SG's, but I have never seen that.

I'm just wondering if maybe they stumbled across a few of the 2012 two piece laminated fretboards sitting in a corner somewhere and said 'hey we shouldn't waste these' LOL. And the painted sides and butt end was done to hide the evidence of it being a laminated board? That's where my mind went when I opened the case and saw it. Anyone seen laminated FB's creep out of the custom shop post 2012?

Can you see the layers of laminate on the bottom corner of the fretboard where it’s chipped off? It looks like the chip is down far enough if it is a laminate (I’m hoping not, for your sake!lol) you should be able to see it. Just a thought.

No, that little exposed spot it doesn't extend even halfway down
