Mod and Demo guitars seem to be the current means of selling factory 2nds. Mods get changes that they charge additional for, refinishes, pickups, other modifications. Demos get sold at a discount. They both come with Warranty's. I think you may be misreading a bit. It's just the identified flaws that are not covered under the warranty, the rest of the guitar is.

Many of the mod shop guitars have minor flaws. But most of them are super heavy. I like that they reveal the weights in the guitar description and a lot of the finishes are unusual. I had a mod shop Les Paul and it was great. It was ten pounds, which I consider heavy.

That’s quite a price tag.

It's been stripped and repainted, the pickguard is missing, those look like new frets... As a "'57 reissue" I think it's a fail. Around here, we make fun of people that molest vintage instruments and have no respect for their history. This certainly isn't the same company I bought my Les Paul from.

I would love to see more colors on the Junior and appreciate the concept of limited edition runs but the price tag is gigantic for that guitar. At least being it to $2500.

There's no risk which doesn't apply to Gibson first guitars e.g. a nut is cut poorly, the bridge is positioned incorrectly, or they develop a neck twist way way down the line, etc. They are sold with a playability warranty that excludes the cosmetics.

For DEMO, you scrutinize the condition and decide if the price is worth the issues disclosed. I have found G-V&R's evaluation reports to be overly critical, I've seen some retailers sell off-the-wall guitars as new with the same or worse.

For MOD, you are either on board with the changes, or not. They offer thematic, seasonal, whimisical one-offs, often with nominal 'upgrades' to hardware and pickups. And sometimes, cases [be sure to check the case pairing closely, sometimes it's a downgrade, sometimes it's an upgrade and you can sell to defray some costs...]. I find the MOD sometimes harder to justify the price differential because it's largely on 'taste' plus they often factor upgrades at cost into the offered price... So, there will be folks who jump at the thing, or those who shrug.

For either MOD or DEMO -- you like or don't like.
-- And sometimes, the price for a MOD is actuallly good value.
-- And sometimes, the price for a DEMO is defintely good value.
-- And occaisionally, they apply further discount prices of 10-15-20%, and you can strike.

You won't see $2500 level of pricing for a $4k Custom Shop Reissue guitar.

Gibson CS still value specs including materials, wood and construction (hide glue, tenon) no matter the other modifications performed.

$4k is the price of a new CS 57 Junior Reissue, so you are getting the modification finish for 'free' -- in compensation for some minor nits -- which you either value or do not.
