Gibson's hard cases on new guitars in recent years can vary in weight, with some being very noticeably heavier than others of the same style. I've seen Trogly in his YouTube videos comment on getting a very heavy case on a new guitar, and explaining that cases made in certain countries use much heavier woods.

Does anyone have more detailed information about which cases from which country are the very heavy ones, in recent years, and which ones Gibson has been sourcing for which models or years?

I have some chainsaw ones from the 80s I use to move things around in. About ten years ago I bought some of those Gibson Custom cases for 335 sized bodies, and they're really nice.

I give Gibson a pass on the case because the guitar is still USA made, and that means a lot to me. I got a hardshell case with a Mexican Jazzmaster a few years back. It was a limited run in lacquer with the red headstock. The case is basically cardboard. I wouldn't trust it on the subway.

My understanding of Gibson's USA wood/tolex cases is that they are made by TKL in their Canadian plant. TKL is an on-time OEM case manufacturer based in Oilville, VA, that has a plant in Canada as well. Gibson's cases sport a neck box tab with "Canada" molded in. Their "Concept" and "Vectra" injection-molded lines, used by manufacturers such as Martin, are made in the Oilville, VA, location.

That's funny you say that. Last year I purchased a Gibson Classic Lite that weighs about 7.5 lbs however, in the case it's noticeable heavier than my other LPs including my 74' Custom. I've been questioning this for months now.
