The reward for the missing ledger with the serials might have something to do with this.

Interesting that they would offer a reward as according to some on here it's known/said that the ledger is around but under wraps.
Apparently if it were to reach the light of day it might cause a good deal of discomfort to some parties, lord knows why.
Another Beano style scenario.

Really? I did not know that. I really hope it comes out now!

Perhaps if the serial number of your authenticated $250K Les Paul Burst was listed in the Ledger as a Les Paul Junior, or
some other Gibson when it left the factory, I think you would know why.

Aha, cheers delaware.
So it's about LPs that are suspect or fugazi...........so it goes, and there are a good number around the place.
I say damn the torpedoes and have the ledger outed;)

The Ledger being found or brought forth at this point would ONLY cause issues. 65 years have passed, guitars where repaired, cloned, faked, messed around, all kinds of things, what would this mean for the Korina guitars, the bursts all that stuff. lawsuits would fly almost instantly, not that I have any knowledge of any fake or buggered with guitars but just by the law of average there are people out there with stuff that isnt exactly as it was advertised when they got. having an accurate record to go off would only lead to conflict.

If I were a long-standing Burst dealer this latest move by Gibson would really piss me off. Gibson should stick with selling new items and save the vintage market for those with their heart and soul (and livelihood) in the game. Part of the allure with finding a vintage instrument is the search, and Gibson is basically taking the fun out of it. But corporations are well-known for capitalizing on human creativity. Argh.

PSA: 1955 Gibson Les Paul Custom ... originally lived in Sweden

  • Soft V !
  • Wafflebacks
  • Luxe Grey Tiger caps
They are asking $85k...

1955 Gibson Les Paul Custom, Serial Number: 513507
This gorgeous 1955 Les Paul™ Custom is in excellent original condition with very minimal wear and no significant lacquer checking. It has one small ding on the back of the body near the strap button that removed the finish. This instrument was initially shipped on January 13, 1956, with four other Les Paul Custom guitars to CMI, likely for export.
This guitar has a note written in Swedish recounting a portion of its history, translated below:
“I bought this guitar from an advertisement in Dagens Nyheter. It was in Luleå so I went up and checked. A younger guy owned it then. He had received a tip that there was an elderly man in Haparanda who had an LP in a closet.
He had bought the guitar in 1955 in the belief that he would become a musician, but it was not to be. He only played at home with an old radio as an amplifier. The original cables that came with it bear witness to this (banana plugs). You can see that the guitar is a little used. Original shoulder strap plus key with carvers + plectrum.”
Includes the original black and gold Lifton® hardshell case.

1981 Gibson ES-347 Left-Handed

$5.5k
  • D profile 3-piece Maple neck
  • Nut Width: 42.86 mm / 1.687 in
  • Brass nut
  • Gibson-branded Schaller Quick-cranking
  • Nashville bridge and TP-6
  • Posi-Lok strap buttons

I am a little torn. Immaculate condition, perhaps a price that can be dealt with, but I am less inclined because of the D shaped neck. Also Series 7 tarbacks. Hmm.

One of my roommates from way-back had a new 347 as his prime guitar -- it was a great one. Set-up silky, played like butter, and got the tones. His coil tap switch was near the other controls, however.

1981 Gibson ES-347 Left-Handed, Serial Number: 82941056

Gibson ES™ models have seen several evolutionary changes since the debut of the ES-150 in 1936. In 1978, the ES-347 debuted as an alternate to the ES-345 with its Varitone and stereo outputs. The ES-347 replaced the Varitone with a coil-tap switch, along with some aesthetic updates, and remained popular throughout its run into the 1990s. The appreciation for this unique ES model continues today.
This extraordinary 1981 ES-347 Left-Handed guitar is in excellent New Old Stock (NOS) condition, right down to the original plastic on the pickguard. This instrument is in a near-mint state with no appreciable play wear, finish wear, or hardware tarnishing. It is a chance to own a true time capsule from 43 years ago and includes its original hardshell case.

Good for them. It's just another revenue stream for them. I think the new management is doing a good job and I'm glad Mark is involved as well.
