I am waiting for the new Fulltone Distortion Pro pedal. I just received an e-mail from Mike Fuller today, and they are being shipped.

There is a sound bite on the website, but I have not checked it out yet. I think it's from a gig. Yeah, like that's an accurate representation of what it really sounds like...he's a killer studio player, an electronics guru, and a vintage gear collector. I bet I can make it sound just like him.

If anyone tries one out before me, please give me a heads up...BB

Burstboy, I'd really like to hear your opinions on the distortion pro if you get it!

I did not order mine yet. I told him about 4 months ago that I wanted #29, and he was most unhelpful. I get an e-mail from him today that said the first 243 were pre-sold? What the hell does that mean. I may just wait to buy one now, that is, until I can play through it first.

I managed to find #12. I'll probably get it, but I need to sell my Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal, which I was going to hang onto.

I will post my review when it arrives.

Is there a difference in build quality, construction or design
between the first 200 made or the 1000 one made
just wondering why people obsess over the earlier ones
I have a choraflange thats in the high 200's
it sounds incredible to me
are the earlier ones better or just more collectable?

I do not think that waiting for a higher production number is a bad thing at all. (1) fulltone will make thousands of these things if they sell, so they are hardly "collectable" and (2) Regarding the Choralflange (which I have & like a great deal) I have #73 mfg in 02/00 immedialtey upon their initial release, BUT within 2 months Fulltone made some upgrades & changes to the circuit to remedy a problem, so I had to have him change mine to NEW spec. Kind of like a new car model, sometimes it's best to wait for the kinks to be worked out.

The Choralflange had problems with the rate pot causing a 'ticking' sound that was in direct proportion to the speed of the pot (more speed=faster ticking sound), even when the pedal was bypassed. To remedy this ticking Fuller now sticks a cheesey little aluminum shield on the PCB behind the speed pot. The Flange mode was also dramaticallly improved, at the expense of the Chorus mode.
All the Choralflanges I have tried ( 7 of them), old and new, give a slight, unwanted distortion sound when the buffered output is used. Plug the Choralflange into a clean Fender amp at low volumes, pick hard, and listen closely, it's there. This does not happen when the true bypass output is used.
Oh, none of them may be used sucessfully with batteries of any type or voltage (yes, even a carbon zinc measuring exactly 9V) so its wallwart or bust. Fuller now ships the units with the battery terminal covered in masking tape and a song and dance about the merits of his regulated power supply.
