Fulldrive2 splatty sounding with humbuckers

I have Yellow FM model from 2000. It loves single coils but has a sort of splatty sound with humbucker equipped guitars that I am not a big fan of. Is this inherent in the design? Can it be modded for a bit more headroom?

Interesting idea. Do you have to feed it through the battery clip or will the AC input jack handle the extra juice?

ya, HBs dont sound good thru the fulldrive, found out it IS definitely voiced for single coils. i almost sold mine and then got a strat recently and wow is all i can say. its like another pedal.

i tried the 18 (and 12) volt thing and didnt like it. took out the acousticity of it if you will. sounded more in the direction of going high impedance or something. too clear and dense sounding. if fuller thought it sounded better that way he would have released it that way.

fun to know you can fiddle with it like that and certainly there is a purpose for that sound. but yuck.

I have a blue FM model from 2002 and I use it mainly for overdrive at home practice volumes but I've found that it really has too much compression for my tastes with humbuckers. I do like it with my strat but I don't use that setup very much since I lean more towards my LP.

Also, with an amp on the edge of breakup like a Deluxe Reverb using a Les Paul the Fulldrive is just way too over the top. It kills the touch sensitivy in that gig situation, kills the bottom end and just pushes the mids into the splatty zone described above.

I use a 1996 Corvette Orange/Red Fulldrive II w/white chicken head knobs. You can pull up the volume and delete the compression, transistional model. thru my Metal Panel Plexi's PTP and they Kill with Les Pauls. They were originally designed for old Marshall's if I remember talking with Mike. I bought it from him direct he used to live on the coast where I still live, great guy and a great player. He designs his pedals and plays them thru the real amps to get the best sound. Glad I never sold it. I was using the OCD and tried the old Fulldrive and the little compression was just the ticket. When cranked A Marshall Metal Panel Plexi's Don't Need No Stinking Pedals..........:salude I have no stake in Fulltone and own most of the great overdrive pedals.
