Yea pretty random. I actually saw its 'sibling' for sale too. Only 1 serial number off. Here's a screenshot of it

I prefer the more reverse chevron of mine. It's a great guitar. Not a perfect job on the binding scraping at the higher frets though, but I can see why they let it have a pass

looks like the back's separating just below the neck joint.......

I'm no luthier but it does look like it's forming a lil cooch there lol. Just to the right of the photo glare.. maybe it's just darker mahog at the join
