Wow! You've got some pretty impressive skills there! I'm always envious when I see players such as yourself who can play fast with such ease. I cannot get any kind of speed going. I got into guitar late in life and all of my picking motion seems to come from my thumb and index finger. I can't seem to stop that motion and let it all come from the wrist like you do. So I play with too much excess motion. When I try picking exercises I get a cramped, burning sensation in my wrist area.

Any suggestions that could help this old guy? Thanks in advance.

Without hesitation, I would suggest checking out this book. You don't have to be an Yngwie fan or an aspiring neo-classical shredder to apply these picking techniques to your own playing. I have been playing Yngwie songs since the 80s, I played many of his ascending runs using strict alternate picking - with a fair degree of success. However, I always felt something was amiss and it was too much of a struggle to play comfortably. This book was a total unlock and game changer for me.

Edit - shout out to OP, I am enjoying your videos!

Thanks Johnny! I'm gonna check this out. At first I thought maybe I'm not holding the pick right. Watched many video's and I seem to be holding it right. At least, right in a way that isn't at all far removed from the way most hold a pick. I'm not trying to become the next shredder at all, just want to and need to loosen up and stop all this wasted extra motion when I pick. I just can't seem to get away from that and it's stopping any progress I try to make. I even postioned a small mirror in front of me so I can watch my picking hand to try and correct the way I pick.

Thanks again!! Have a great day!
