Well a while ago, after the whole family and the lady forgot my birthday, I decided to make a statement by getting this...
A 2011 Washed Cherry R9 in gloss...the only upgrade is a set of antiquities I had lying around, fitted with full strength magnets.
Previous owner practically never took it out of its dust free case, and me replacing the pickups is probably the worst it's seen in its lifetime.
Every day I look at this thing I am in awe...please excuse the other weird looking guitar (oh who am I kidding I love them all)!
Sounds absolutely marvelous through the fender princeton/marshall 2061x, and it's a really bright sounding guitar!

Thanks, and that's quite funny because when the light strikes it funny the treble side looks like the bass side and vice versa!

I ask because I recently did that same thing to my '87 prehistoric/standard (w 500K pots), the guitar in my avatar. One day I want to put the degaussed A2s back in, and the next day I like the full strength A2s. That top on your R9 is great. That looks like what I call " the guitar of a lifetime."

Thanks for the compliments wow! My R9 came with stock BB 1/2 and the two things I didn't like about it were the overly glossy pickup covers (since it is a gloss, not vos), the EQ of the pickup, and the slight microphonics at high volume settings through NMV amps.

Surprisingly the antiquities have less squeal, although I do leave all the guitar work except setup to a pro who really is the best in the business- very old school. Compared to the BB1/2 the ants sound brighter and more sparkly, while the BB1/2 seem to have a very slight ts808 nuance if you know what I'm talking about; not that it's a bad thing of course, but I like to keep the basics pretty neutral, because I already have a great 808 to step on if I need it. So with the antiquites I don't get muddiness on the neck pickup and it squeaks rather than turning into a pile of mud. Like a thicker bridge pickup if that makes any sense.

Regarding the magnets, during surgery my tech measured it and my particular ants were about 70-75% strength of the BB alnico two magnets. Just more of antiquity goodness and a little harder edge to make it perfect. I'm pretty familiar with the antiquities so the comparison was very easy to notice.

I'm not really a habitual pickup swapper and I am really out of the loop on other boutique brands, but when I want to switch it up slightly, seymour's stuff has always made it happen. The man has a great set of ears and the leesona which still winds his paf derivatives. And once I like it, I leave it be.

With setup (particularly neck relief/nut height/action/fret size/pickup height) I'm really specific to the point of being anal, but if a pickup sounds good, then that's that).

Thanks for the kind words! I found out about your most recent acquisition through instagram and was floored...then happened to come across two amazing threads right here on the forum. That guitar was one of the first bursts that I ever saw and it's a surreal feeling that a member here has it; I can't imagine how blessed you may be feeling! So I had some stupid questions and thus I posted in the other more relevant thread . Congrats again...that is a lifetime guitar.
