• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

You know what kills me about this, Doc? That little bastard did all that great playing, hell mastered it, in his early 20's! It has been a source of awe and wonder for me, still.

Not of this world I guess, Al. It's only occasionally that I think I've 'evolved' as a player (and I have...somewhat) that I pull out some Duane licks and try to emulate them - in all their nuanced glory. I usually end up with the same ol line or two from "Stormy Monday" I've been working on for decades. At this pace I'll have him nailed by, oh, 2171 or so.:dang

We witness 2 (at least) very distinct talents when listening to him... the one that hears these beautifully melodic pieces in his head and the one that can play them in a way that captivates us year after year... a 3rd talent might be the cool with which he pulls it off... definitely not of this world... :hmm

I tend to agree... however, Duane really liked something about "'Lanta", I have no idea if it was the looks, the sound, or the feel... but my guess is that is the direction he would've been heading in had he been allowed to continue to enthrall us with his magical tonez. While I do like the sound of the Layla/Fillmore set, and those are indeed the tones he is best known for, I think the 'Lanta set, although a bit hot, more greatly epitomizes classic '59 Burst tone... and that is my guess as to what he liked about it when dimed through a pair of 50 watt heads... :salude

There's a source here in the USA quoting Duane's Fillmore East bridge pickup DCR: 16.5 (with a 1M volume pot), and neck pickup DCR: 9.5, custom wound by Mike Ladd.

Nonsense. Pure nonsense.
