• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Yes, in my case. I had a 2003 '57 Ri, a 2004 '58 Ri and 2005 '58 Ri and that's exactly how I would describe the difference, Stifled Tone.
Although now I'm thinking about acquiring a '54 Ri. :D

I don’t think the tone is more stifled in my R4, compared to my non Goldie Les Pauls that I have and I’ve had...in fact, the tone is more sparkly golden for sure!

That is what I'm hoping for. With the wrap tail without ABR and P90's it should make all the difference.

Does the bronze powder have a notable effect on the tone of a Historic reissue ?

( I am posting this because I think it does - but my sample size of guitars I tested is small - I do understand that a vintage 54 burst would be amazing tho )
Yes. You need to sand it to bare wood. Buysome gold spray paint and lightly. Spray some clear. Tone oozes out

It kills the tone.
You need some vintage spec bridge thumbwheels and a nylon nut to bring it back.
