• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Do the Current "Regular" SG Standards Have 500k Pots?

I assumed they did, but from some of the other threads I'm reading, I'm guessing I'm wrong.

Most production Gibsons have 300k linear volume pots and 500k audio tone pots.

It is easy to tell which pot is in there. IF the guitar is stock and the pot has a wide sweep...meaning you can utilize the lower 2/3 of the sweep and get good tones....then the guitar has 300K linear volume pots, which have been standard for 'regular' production Gibsons since the ealry '70's, ime.
The 500K audio taper 'dies' at about 7 on the dial...below that the guitar doesn't really produce usable tones, imho, wihtout a treble bypass circuit modification on the pot.
