• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Although I am not a Sum 41 fanatic, he played a Gibson Les Paul in the Fat Lip video and on several live appearances. He played a red Gibson SG (back when they were first incorrectly introduced as the new Les Paul) and several gold and vintage sunburst Les Pauls.
Jason McCaslin mostly played Fender and Music Man basses, though. All through Marshall, Ampeg and Fender stuff. But Deryck Whibley has also played Fender and Gretsch guitars, and a Gibson ES 330 and a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar.

I mostly knew about Sum 41 because of his marriage to Avril. He was mostly flung into the spotlight cos of her. I think his Tele got acquired by Avril Lavigne when she divorced him. 5 Seconds of Summer , have also listed Sum as an influence.

But if you find this post interesting I would like a response.

Makes sense to me. Having played in a few punk bands, I think that style of music sounds great played on a Gibson. The guitarists of Bad Religion, AFI, Rise Against and SO MANY others use Les Pauls and/or SGs. I know BR and NOFX influenced Sum 41. I fell in love with the Les Paul when I saw Tony Sly (RIP) of No Use For A Name playing a Custom at the first real punk rock show I ever attended. I didn't even know what that guitar was at the time, but knew if I was ever going to be in a punk band, I had to play a LP.
It's still my go to if I want some good chuggy palm mutes...
