I just came upon an R9 Plaintop (likely an '01) at a local dealer. Currently "on sale" for about $2500. My gut tells me that's a great price. Is it?

Yee Haw!!!

That sounds like a great price to me. I just bought a new (1998) R8 Plaintop for $2,095.00, so I'd say that's real good. I'd go for it!!!! Good Luck!

Despite Gibson pricing $2500 is about the going rate for a brand new or NOS R9 plaintop. I have seen a couple go on ebay for that. Real nice grain add a little more, mild flame add a little more. You have the added luxury of actually playing this one. If it sounds good I would get it. Also I know a guy selling a real sweet cherry y2k r9 for 2200 shipped if your interested I can send you his email.

Thanks much, guys. I'll likely pass, so if anyone wants to know the where abouts just let me know.

I was considering it until in a flight of guitaric kharma I came across an old Ibanez Artist that I've been kicking myself for selling for the last 3 years. It popped up on eBay and after swapping a couple notes with the owner (who bought it from the guy I sold it to) we worked a deal. Saved me almost 2 grand, the way I look at it.
