• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Check out the back on THIS R7!!

That does look like the right shade, esp compared to XO's GT. Tiny heel, though.

That is a nice color. I found the lightbacks too light. My darkback is a dark burgundy in color and the wood shows through quite nicely.

NO Historics have ever been drilled. EVER. ALL Historics since 1993 have had long tenons. GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.

I went to GC to check out the shit they had. And, I agree, the 57 GTs were way too light on teh backside. Maybe they darken with age, but who knows.

The assholes are the ones who actually think there might have been drilled Historics at any time or short tenons on any historic LP since 1993.
I LIKE the golden brown backs of the 2001 goldtops. It looks like wood dipped in honey. I like the faded golden brown , too. And I do like the faded dark back- but I don't like a back that's too dark.

XO...
no offense intended, but your shot appears to be overall on the redder side of natural color (background too). Is it? If so, how's the one in the ad compare w/ the your original? Is it more chocolate as the pics indicate?

As lespaul506 say's the heel is tiny. What year did they correct this, as the one I have (02) is much more like XOs.

Rare in Hartford?

I crack up laughing when the seller calls an ordinary reissue "rare".

Where? Hartford?

That word is in waaay to many ebay guitar ads these days. In fact without knowing for sure that one is in fact rare, I'd be leery of a seller using that in their description, even if you know it's a guitar I want. If they'd say that about a guitar that's obviously not rare, what other kind of BS might they spew?

Flamed93, why would I be offended???? B/c my digital cam sucks? I took a pic of the back of my dad's 57 outside today, and here it is.

But, that looks lighter than it really is. Here's another I took inside, with flash.

Looks like a different guitar. In real life, it's kinda inbetween.

Believe it or not, it's NJ. The winter has been like spring. Global warming is a great thing;\

Here's the story. My grandfather bought it for my dad in about 1961 for about $330 used from a music store. My dad, being young and stupid, had an engraved pickguard and toggle plate custom made. The originals may or may not be in my grandfathers house (he's long passed, but my grandmother is still alive). He also wanted to be able to plug into two amps, so he drilled another jack and tapped into the pickups. Other than that, it's original. It's an early one, with black plastic and pre-PAF sticker pu's. My dad used it while he was in the airforce, in a band, then just for fun, jamming with family and friends.

I now have possession of it, but it is still my dad's. I hope to teach one of my nephews or nieces to play, and pass it to them when I'm too old to play. We don't plan to have kids, and my dog's paws don't work too good.
