Buying JB tickets-am I the only idiot who didn't know this?

So I'm buying tickets to see JB in Durham NC and after putting all my info in and getting ready to click BUY I see that my total is roughly 35% higher than the purchase price and tax. I check the details and find this company charges a mega service charge. So I go shopping and find a company advertising 'no service charge'. Of course not ... I find they've already added about 25% to the ticket prices. So I wind up at the 'big ticket reseller' and eventual buy two tickets with reasonable service fees. Saved about $120 over the others.

Is this just how things are done now? Are all these scummy sites buying up tickets from the promoter and reselling them at big mark-ups? The average concert-goer may not even be aware they can shop for competitive ticket prices. I didn't. But I'm autistic (for real) and suffered a TBI from a bike wreck last July. Maybe it's just me. Lol.

I haven't toured since Jesus was in diapers and the beautiful US Army Major that is my wife-unit has bought all our tickets since we were married. So I'm way out of the loop. Just seems kinda scummy/scammy.

The upside is that The Major and I finally get to see Joe. She's a rabid fan.

As an aside ... anyone know someone on the crew who might be able to get my pickguard autographed? Yes ... I'm a total nerd. :(

You will enjoy the show.
Here on the Cape we have a medium sized hall- The Melody Tent- they have a web side tied to the Borg reseller with massive fees. We paid $68 for a regional act last summer- the lady in front of us went to the ticket window and paid $17.
The resellers have created value for the artists and the venues- it's just a fact. So they are allow their pound (and-a-half) of flesh.
Some call it usury.

How do the resellers 'create value' for the artists? Serious question. I can imagine a contract could be written so that the artist gets a piece of the "service fees". Izzat a normal thing nowadays?

The landscape has changed so much since Napster. I feel for young bands coming up nowadays, slogging it out as openers or headlining small regional shows. Based on conversations I've had with guys they're making a lot less money today (in relative dollars) than 20 or 30 years ago. And it wasn't anything to write home about back then. And of course there's VERY little to be gained from the recorded music today.

JB is, of course, way past that level. And he did it his way. Very impressive.

Seeing how much control Joe B has over everything in his career I'm somewhat surprised he would let this happen.

Just getting the tickets to a wider market, handling the transaction and to some degree, promotion.

Looking forward to the show, regardless. And glad I saved $150. Lol.

March includes the wife's birthday, our anniversary, and marks her retirement after 20 years in the US Army, active and reserve. She's earned a special night out. We're seeing another of her fav bands two nights prior ... a Mongolian Heavy Metal troupe called The Hu. Like me, she's very eclectic in her tastes.

I don't know how she did it. Four years in the Green Machine was all I could take. I have a problem with authority.

I've seen this before - being online when the tickets go on sale, to the second! and it's already sold out, but lots of secondary market tickets available from the platform's own reseller service - at 2 to 3 times the cost. |It's a scam - they know the tickets will sell anyway, and why not double or more the profit.
It does make me nostalgic for the days you'd have to go line up in person to get tickets.

It's cool that Joe controls so much of his own business, but even Pearl Jam at the height of their popularity couldn't fight the ticket price gougers.

This guy has nothing good to say about anybody or anything. Sad.
If you don’t think $7.00 was cool for a Jeff Beck concert in 1976, that’s, well, sad. Adjusted for CURRENT inflation, that would be $34.59 in 2022. Something’s rotten In Denmark.

And for the record, I supported Clapton. That would constitute something ‘good.’ But I guess only if you thought he was still human.

I'm a 100% old fart ... I paid $5.50 to see the Rolling Stones in summer 1972 and find the new prices somewhat (oh boy) hard to adjust too.

as an aside to the ticket prices, has anyone seen the price of t-shirts lately? I thought $20 for a Guns N Roses one in the 90s was a lot but sheesh...

I've been kinda floored at ticket prices, in general, myself. But I try to remember that's about the only way these guys make money nowadays. I thought JB's tickets would actually be much higher. And I would have gladly paid it. Just not gonna pay 35% for 'service fees', cuz he ain't getting his share of that, unfortunately.

Oh btw ... who's 'Jeff Beck'? He a blues guy? Must be new.
