• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Bridge bottoms out

I have a Les Paul that was a kit. I don’t know if that’s cool here. It’s a beautiful guitar but I can’t get the action low enough due to the bridge bottoming out. Any advice is appreciated

Check your attachment, it just posted the path to an HEIC that's on your local computer.

If the bridge is bottomed out and your action is still too high it sounds like your neck angle is off, but post pictures of the bridge as well as the rest of the guitar, including the neck joint etc...

You may be able to have a machine shop mill off a bit from the bottom of the bridge and thumbwheel area to allow it to be lowered further. I've done that on a few guitars with neck angle issues.

Some of those kits are bolt on necks and if that’s the case there could be an easy shim option.

I agree though, some other changes might need to be in order. I’m kind of curious about the clearance over the pickups too

Pickup clearance is fine . There’s a shadow that makes it look like strings are touching the pickups.

I’ve compared the kit guitar to my Gibson. The carve of the kit is a little higher than on my Gibson. I think I’ll get the Bridge milled.

Put a piece of sandpaper, maybe 120 grit, flat on a table and rub the bridge on it until you get the action you want.
It may be tedious, but you'll be able to check it as often as you like, as opposed to giving it to someone to be milled.
If you're familiar with driving tools, flip a belt sander upside down and let the tool do the work.
