• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Bob Seger's Les Pauls in the 70s?

In the 70s, I saw Bob Seger live a couple of times. I hazily (heh heh) remember a sunburst, but I also seem to remember either a wine red or mahogany topped Les Paul.

Anyone know anything about his Les Pauls--other than the burst that was stolen.

I swear that the only reason I can't rememember is the second hand smoke ;)

Hopefully one of my fellow Michiganders might have personal pics?
I found this one on a quick search...from 1975..looks like a pre '57. (can't see bridge..)

Thanks, Kris.

I saw him first in 77 in Nashville, and I seem to remember him playing a non-burst, full mahogany or wine read maple capped LP.

But I know how things trick the mind.

I'd always had this idea that Dave Davies played a burst on SNL in 76 or 77. I remembered it that way for decades. Turns out it was a goldtop with P90s.

I saw him in the late '70s and he used a red Hagstrom Swede. Drew Abbott used a Goldtop and a Strat.

Bob Seger System used to play our Teen-Hi dances in Detroit. Can't remember how many times I danced to Heavy Music.

...a guitar was stolen from the home of Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer Bob Seger. The guitar in question is a vintage 1978 Gibson Les Paul. A long time favorite of Seger, he is pictured with it on the cover of his 1994 ‘Greatest Hits’ album. According to police, the guitar was stolen during a move of the Seger household sometime between August and October of this year. Police have been checking the internet as well as local pawn shops and music stores in an attempt to recover the guitar. The guitar is valued at somewhere between $8,000 and $10,000, but is apparently (and understandably) “priceless” to Seger.

$8 - $10 K for a '78? And it's "vintage"?

As Big Al would say....:bigal

v

The back story is that the guitar was stolen and returned under mysterious circumstances. It showed up on Seger's Dock one morning following the local police questioning partygoers after a teen party at Bob's house. Several items were stolen and the guilty party got cold feet. Now, I might pay $8000 for the guitar on the cover of a multi platinum selling album. As for the correct use of "vintage", not sure I have the will to debate that here and with this crowd.
