Blatant Fraud at Guitar Center Framingham MA

I really can't take it anymore !! I went by GC in Framingham Ma yesterday and noticed two new vintage guitars for sale, the first was a 53 fender esquire 4500.00 It was an old neck (?) with a japanese body that was at least a half an inch thinner than a real fender body, reissue plastic and barden pickups. Someone had taken the time to relic the body and my sales guy had the balls to call it a real player. The second was a hardtail 57 strat 15,000.00 that i was assured was 100 stock original. First of all the neck was a brand new refin and the plastic and pickguard were also new. Why and how do they try do get away with this kind of crap. I would love it if the "Burst Brothers" would respond to this .

I'm not particularly a GC basher, and I've purchased a couple of guitars there in the past, but like most others, I have my own GC story:

I bought a Gibson SJ-150 at GC in March 02 and kept it for nearly a year, then brought it back to trade in on an SJ-200 in December 02. I had taken really good care of the 150, but it was certainly used for almost a year.

I did my trade, was happy with the deal, and then stopped back at GC a couple of weeks later, and there was my old SJ-150 (I checked the serial number) being sold as new.

Now, it was in excellent shape and somebody playing it might not have any complaints, but that was NOT a new guitar. For someone buying it, that would be the difference of several hundred bucks.

No matter how you slice it, that's fraud. Needless to say, I haven't purchased anything at GC since.

As long as they can get away with it, they will try. I am really surprised how much they try to- and do- get away with in situations like this. Especially since they are such a large company. They have quite a bit to lose. But when we get ripped-off we don't have too many other places to go of that size. I prefer the ma & pa shops. But they are too smart such a larger percentage of the time! And the specials aren't usually as good. Oh well, just stay informed and remember what me and Greg Brady always say- "Cahvee ahtemtor."

I was at a GC today, every single vintage guitar there was boogered with one way or another.

I got a good chuckle from the 70's LP Deluxe being sold as a 1967 LP. :lol2

Mike, I've never been in a GC where someone like you or I, didn't know more about vintage guitars than entire staff of the guitar department combined. They just don't know their ass from their elbows. The Burst Brothers can only police so much from 3000 miles away. The fraud comes in off the street selling these minimum wage chooches these reliced shitboxes. The problem is GC won't pay for skilled labor to work each store location. When they get someone who has knowledge, they lose them because they treat them like the floor guys. The blatant fraud is just blatant stupidity of the local GC staff.

I've met exactly ONE person EVER, at the several guitar centers I occasion, that knew as much about vintage guitars as my 13 year old. And he's really not even INTERESTED that much in guitars, he's a drummer.

It works both ways! Where else are you gonna find a yardsale deal in a music store. I got a basketweave Marshall straight cab for 400 bucks at a Daddys Junky Music a few years ago. I asked the kid to open open up the cab to check if the the speakers were original and it was loaded with 4 pre-rola G12H's. Even though these types of stores are annoying, if I'm in the area I stop in and do a quick walk thru just in case.
