Best Case Recommendation

It is time for a new case. The handle on my old Gibson case is suspect (not the case that came with my Skinnerburst, keeping that case mint). I will be using this primarily for local gigging, not flying.

Wondering about the newer Protector cases and it that price range. The Calton cases are out of my budget now. What is everybody using with their CS LP's? TIA Picts are always helpful.

I have two Protector cases; one first generation, the other, second generation. Personally, I love 'em and I've heard that the new ones are just as good if not better.

Best case scenario... (see what I did there ) IMO, is to get an old 70s generation 1 Protector case. I love those things!

SKBs are really pretty decent for local travel. I use them for local travel with vintage instruments.

Cool shots. I've owned all the 70's Protectors from time time or another, but eventually, all of them left the house with guitars I sold. I may give the new Protector a try? They look nice, other that they may be a bit thicker than I perfer. I hear they are more like the Gen 3 in size? Anyone here have first hand knowledge of the new ones?

The new protectors look a lot like the Gator in the link below, including the very small accessories compartment. The compartment and interior color of the Gator I got are different than the website. I like it a lot, except the compartment is almost worthlessly small.

Wow! Thats a cool case.I am thinking of getting a couple cases for my R9 and R0.The Lifton cases are built beautifully, but they dont hold the guitar.

I would agree but in 2021 its a bit overkill. I've used the ATA Gator and SKB ones as well. They work and are much lighter and cheaper.

That is good . Now what my tech told me was that what if the case falls off a truck ? I said it is in a flight case (Gibson Protector -chainsaw case ) To which he replied that if it falls off the back of the truck and the truck runs it over it will get smashed to toothpicks . Chainsaw cases are good for air travel . Also my tech told me I will never be made "whole "

I use 1970s Gibson "Protector" cases for a couple guitars, but I'm kinda lukewarm on them. Among other things, I'd like a bit more space around the headstock; the back of the headstock lightly touches the side of the case, which I don't think is ideal if the case is dropped. (You can try to avoid that by putting a towel behind the neck to elevate the headstock, but at a minimum, it can move in the case and it's a bit less robust protection.) I heard that's because they were designed for 14-degree Norlin headstocks rather than 17-degree vintage/historic headstocks--no idea if that accounts for the difference, but the area around the headstock is "closer" than I'd like. But I do think the modern SKBs and Gators do a great job for most uses. And if you're flying, Hoffees (and if you don't mind the extra weight, Caltons) are great!
