• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Ever see the tags for a '50's Custom?
These came with my '56, but years ago I bought a '56 Custom at a guy's booth; that guitar just had one tag the "Fretless Wonder" tag.
After I bought the guitar, a guy wood not leave me alone until he had that tag. He kept throwing different offers my way; I wouldn't budge....but when he offered $750, my ears perked up. I only paid $11500 for the guitar (wholesale at the time)...Finally, I told him "a grand for the tag." He happily paid me. I felt a little bad about it, but he was happy and I just had an extra grand in my pocket. True story.
Here is the '56 that I own now. Years of playing and collecting and eventually I wound up with a full set of tags that I had cobbled together (including thew "Fretless Wonder" tag) that came in the case in a trashed '55 that I had wound up with. No extra charge...

Sorry for the terrible photos but I had something that came up that had to be done. I'll add better ones later....

What a great guitar!! :salude

It's crazy that the guy paid a grand for your tag back then, but I guess a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do...

I think I have posted photos of a complete set earlier in the thread :)

This week, I celebrate 10 years on the Vintage section of the LPF. :)

Mostly, I lurked, as I was playing vintage Fenders, but eventually I managed to get my very own 50s LP. :jim

So here is a tribute to my favourite Les Paul model.
wow. that chart shows quite a few sg tv's being made.. where are they now? those have been non existent in my neck of the woods. always wanted one
Often forgotten, misunderstood but mysterious, the Alnico Customs from the 50s haunted me for years. Only last year did I finally manage to get a 1956 and the honey moon is still going strong.

So let's have a thread that celebrates these unique guitars. :slash:

Please post info and pics only of Alnico Customs...I will be updating the thread with photos from my archives as we go along.

There are some '53s too, not sure where they come under...Gruhn had one for sale for a while, and I remember it being on the heavy side.

A data sheet of some sort, singing the praises of being a Fretless Wonder...

Amazing thread! Alnico BBs are one of my favorites. Been lurking the forums, and this thread in particular, for years.

Anyhow, just stumbled with this clip and thought it might belong here as well...

BTW, I recently got myself a '72 LPC54 RI. Not the real deal (so I won't post it here) but a very nice guitar on it's own. Someday hopefuly I'll graduate to 50s one.
