yes..it does have issues..beside an added stop tail…it’s been refinished..take a look at the sloppy retouch at the botched serial number restoration ..looking very closely in one cavity shot it appears to have ( possibly ) been doweled ..I suspect it’s had a broken neck heel ..the terrible paint in that area kind of confirms it..though the owner claims otherwise

Did they come with stop tails in ‘70?
If not, filled holes and refin?

would have liked to have worked a make-offer deal on this non-original batwing ..however, the seller refuses to believe the guitar is not stock
I actually bought the guitar for much less than posted sold price on reverb. Seller was quite accommodating removing the pickguard. It was likely a special order custom with a hardtail in white. All solder joints are original. Will eventually need a fret job but looks like a fretless wonder from fret leveling over the years.

I understand your refin opinion as all customs had maestro and would agree for the exception a refin would require unsoldering wire from pots or cutting wire which neither was done. The paint fill touchup at the neck joint is from wood expansion. The playing wear on the back edge exposing the wood is visible. The stop tail is from same time period. It seems more probable being a special order.

who was this Master Degree Luthier ? ..when asked he never replied ..I still believe this to be what I stated ..I would never base originality on solder joints , they have and can be aged to look authentic .

Checking under the finish? No feel of the checking when touching lightly with a nail?
And paint residue under pickguard / in screw holes?

If affirmative, I'd say refin.
