A question for a guitar beginner

My girlfriend want to start to play (no, not with my wiener). She is a very good pianist. So she knows some really advanced stuff like- the names of notes, the names of chords, scales, and some wierd "theory" thing. So she gets frustrated with me because I don't know any of that Hi-Tech stuff. I can show her how to play, but I don't know what anything is called. I showed her a "G" chord and she asked me, "How do you know it is a G and what are the notes that make it up?" I said, "Who cares? Are you going to play it or not?" She doesn't understand how a major chord can have more than 5 notes because a piano has only 5! Then she wanted to know what to do with 6 strings and only 5 fingers! She said, "How do I know when to strum all of them?" There are a few other good ones, but I'll get the point. I know what book I have and want her to start off with, but I want you guys to make a recommendation.

So I ask you all-

What beginners book- only one- should a beginning guitarist start with?

Mel Bay and Ernie Ball have some decent beginner books. Since your girlfriend already has musical knowledge, you should both go to a music store that carries a good selection of sheet music, and have her look through the books herself.

The fact that she already knows how to read music and understands (at least) basic music theory is irrelevant- she is starting from scratch on a new instrument, so she needs to be patient and start from square one.

That is why I want her to use the Mel Bay's Book of Guitar Chords. Because she already has the musical knowledge. She is obviously ambidextrous, so the combination of pictures and finger placement- I believe- is all she needs at this point. I am sure soon after she finishes working on the stuff she will be teaching me leads!
