• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

A few folks asked for updated pics. 1952, 53, 54, 56, and 58 LP Goldtops. The evolution from trapeze to stop bar to ABR-1 to humbuckers. :wail

How do the 52 and 53 play with the trapeze ? I think they look pretty cool but wondered about the playability and tuning. I had a chance to buy a mint 52 back in 1986 for 800 bucks but I was broke !!! That was when no one wanted a Gibson and Fender was king. Man I regret missing that one. Beautiful collection !!!

stonertone, I play the 52 and 53 all the time. I love the feel and tone of these guitars. It is challenging to palm mute the strings, but it doesn't get in the way for me. I really like them for rhythm work. :)

This post is to be viewed listening to "Those spoke Zaratustra", like in 2001... guitar evolution at it best...

Mike- Thats cool, ever since I had that chance to buy that 52 I've had that thing creeping in the back of my mind. Maybe I'll try to find a Historic, I know they made them but I never see them anymore, most of the dealers start with the 54's. I guess they weren't that popular but I just love the look of that trapeze and I love p-90's.

Mike -
That is by far and away the most impressive collection of Goldtops I've ever seen assembled in one place! That '54 looks exactly like the one I had 20 years ago, when you could still buy them for less that what the RIs are going for today. Kudos to you!

BTW- Stonertone, I know where you can pickup a '52 RI with Les's signature on the spare guard. Send me an e-mail and I'll give you the skinny!

Mike, when others hate you, I feel quite warm and fuzzy towards you.

Can I have the 54?

Please?

Sure, Greg. I'll suggest you as the beneficiary of the 54 if my wife and daughters decide to pass on the guitar after I'm six feet under. :)
