I always wanted an affordable Gibson Les Paul with P-90s. For a long time, however, Gibson offered finish options limited to heritage cherry, tv yellow, and sometimes ebony. That changed in 2010 when Gibson released the 50's Tribute series with finish options including a gold top, cherry burst, white, ebony, and honey burst. I was lucky to find and order a honey burst one from a site in Germany. It is a really light one at 7.0 pounds and the P90s have a good snarl to them. Kudos to Gibson for the 50's Tribute series.

The Les Paul 50's Tribute gold tops are nice. Any photos?

Here's mine... 2013 model with Wizz Premium Clone Soapbar P90s, Bigsby B7 with Vibramate V7-LP and Super Grip, Callaham Front Roller Upgrade Kit and Upgraded Main String Shaft, CTS-TVT Pots and Russian K40Y-9 .022/.015 Caps, and yes, because its so cool, the knobs all go to 11!!! :hee

The amp is a Fender Factory Special Run Blues Junior III 'Need for Tweed' with AlNiCo Jensen P12R Speaker and modded with a Fromel Electronics Supreme Mod Kit and Standby Switch, MOD 8EB2C1B Reverb Tank (replaced the stock Ruby) and JJ Tubes all around (replacing the stock GTs).

These Tribs are a serious bang for the buck and while all the mods weren't totally necessary, they took a great guitar and made it, IMHO, AWESOME!!! :salude

Here's mine with the following mods: Top wet sanded then buffed to gloss, Gibson P90s from a 2010 50's Tribute, MSSC 50's wiring harness with PIO caps, bone nut, cream plastics, pick guard add, CreamTone switch tip, plain TRC, gold top-hats w/pointers, and tuners changed to keystone Grovers. :eek:la

Thanks rockabilly! I used 600 grit wet/dry from Ace Hardware. Most people are shocked that I didn't go any finer than 600, but I ended up with a shine that has a nice vintage look and feel. I'm very happy with way it turned out!

After knocking down all the orange peel, I hand rubbed it with Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish (also from Ace Hardware), and finally a couple applications of Virtuoso Cleaner and Polish.

I noticed that these goldtops from the first year were hard to come by,and especially in Scandinavia. :)

The goldtops are really nice looking. I have heard they were scarce and can image even more so in Scandinavia. My wife helps me with colors and liked the Honeyburst better.Since mine is so light I was wondering if other 50's Tributes are also light.

The 2010 50's Tributes are light because they're chambered. I'm not sure about the 2011 and 2012 models, but in 2013 Gibson went to traditional weight relief... My '13 Gold Top is 8.1 lbs (3.67 kg).
