Hey guys I’ve just purchased a 1983 Les Paul standard and was wondering if you could help my identify whether it’s a ‘59 reissue or not?

I am sure someone here could identify your guitar, but we would need the following to be sure.
Photo's of:
The Serial Number
The Control Cavity, with all 4 Potentiometer Codes
Both Pickup Cavities, with the backs of both pickups
What color is the Control Cavity Cover?
A lot was going on at Gibson in that 1980 to 1986 time period.
That "Burl" Top makes me think this isn't just a any Les Paul.

I don’t have the guitar in my possession yet but here are some more pics…the pickups are Tim shaw.

Hope you can help.

Thanks

The color is Vintage Cherry Sunburst.
The pickups are indeed Shaw wound pickups. (Correct part numbers)
The Pot codes (that I can see) are original, but I can't believe it left the factory with that solder job.
The cavity covers would be "Brown" if it were a "Heritage" series.

Looks to be what the TRC advertises itself to be... a post-Heritage Series, pre-Pre-Reissue, pre-Custom Shop, pre-Pre-Historic "Standard 83" but from the >500 serial number and bridge, the Nashville variety rather than a Kalamazoo model... with Shawbuckers.

One of those "on the journey to..." what would become a R9 Reissue, eventually. Might be referred to as a '59 Reissue' while not formally an R9 Reissue.

I think these are pretty rare, from what I've read. Like limited to ~200...?

Collectible to some, sure. Probably hard to find comps due to their relative rarity. There were also 'Standard 82' models that preceded it...

I'd ask the resident expert, @MikeSlub !

JB got it right. Standard 83 Pre-Historic. Have to check my recent Price Guide. Probably in the same realm as other 1980’s pre-Historics.$4-5k maybe?

Thanks Mike!

Do you know if this would have been shipped in a chainsaw protector case?

Cheers

Also, was it the later models or earlier models that had the inked serial? Cheers
