1980 JMP 50 watt incoming

Just bought a '80 JMP 50 watter master volume head.:headbange
It has been coverted to use EL-34' other than that it's completely stock.
I had two JMP' back in the 80's and 90's along with a '68 Plexi, two JCM 800' and two 900'.
It was time to come back home so to speak.eace2

Great amp, I am sure you will put it through it's paces nicely.

My main giging amp in the late 70's early 80's was a 77 100 watter with Master, I loved that amp, could do everything with it. Had a SMF tour Series Cabinet. I think it was Sound City.

I had an early 70's 4 hole 100 watt and a late 70's 50 watt master volume.
I've got a pair of NOS Mullard XF-2 double halo getter EL-34' and a trio of NOS Mullard blackburn ECC83' ready to go in.:headbange

Actually, that should be a cool amp for you. I recently picked up a 1974 Superlead that had never been molested. Never had one and it's a true experience - loud as hell. Looking for some sort of bottom to go with and I think I found a full size cab with 2-12's to pair it up with. Pulled two tubes and the thing is still a beast, albeit a very three dimensional beast. Still have the OD-2, though (a little more versatile, don't you know) :hee

I sold the CA to help pay for home repairs and free up some cash for a JMP.
For the past 7 years I've been playing mostly boutique amps.
It's time to come full circle for me.
Marshall and Fender.:headbange
That's what I grew up playing and love.
What I liked most about the OD-2 was how Marshall like it was.
So, I have the JMP, Fender Vibrolux Reverb and a Champ.Oh, and I've got and totally dig my Class 5.
My Victoria 5E3 is up for sale too.
I'm gonna stay away from boutique amps and stick with Marshall and Fender.

Sean, you were the one who turned me on to the Carol Ann, and it is one of the finest amps I have ever played, especially since it has such versatility with both a great clean and a great OD. I can understand the desire to go back to the roots, though The JMP is the first amp like that I have ever owned (not counting Twins) The thing that is amazing is that when one fires it up, the immediate thought is "Yep, that's the real sound of rock and roll" Not too distorted, just a healthy and powerful "crunch". If my memory serves me, the sound of rock that I remember is emulated in that type of amp. Not too much OD, more like a set of nice and warm tubes, if you get my drift. I run the OD2 not have a great deal of distortion, per se, more along the lines of the former. And, like you, I am running a KTS 70 as the EVM 12L, although a great speaker, is a bit too "in your face" for my ears. Good luck with the 800.

Yeah.
I had a few TR's plus Glaswerks, Bludo-Tone, Carol-Ann, Bruno, DR Z etc.
I'm getting back to my roots.

That's really interesting. I've been in the Marshall camp for most of my life and was thinking about getting into a Two-Rock. Maybe you could talk me out of it.

They along with the others I've had are great amps.
You go right ahead and give 'em a spin.

get ready to be happy...
my #1 is a '78 2104 (2x12 combo jmp with master volume) loaded with 6550's, and it kills! when i get the jones for another amp, i just crank this up. all those thoughts go away - at least temporarily.

Congrats man. I had a '79 50 watt. Funny story...I was getting ready to fire up at a pretty large venue (Harpos in Detroit) and she didn't light up or turn on...had to play the show direct with a Sansamp (which worked....thank god...) I took it back to where I bought it (Junkyard Guitar in Royal Oak MI) and the dude took it back and gave me a '76 100 watter in it's place. (Runs EL34s too.) Turned out the fuse block got smashed in, maybe during load in or something...I think I made out well. Good customer service to say the least. Can't take it above 3 though or it drowns out the drums!:headbange

I was running a JCM 900 cab, but then I got a smokin' deal on a '76 1982 cab, with G12H30's. It's nice to have the matching set! If it sounded killer thru 75 watters, it absolutely kills thru 30's...

Played it through my Glaswerks 212 oval back with ASW 70 and 60.
Sounds great and just like I remember.Thankfully the taper on the volume is smooth.No quick volume jumps.
Can play on 2 1/2 to 3 at home without killing myself.:2cool
At 4 it pumps up and at 5 it's full throtle.:headbange
Tomorrow I'll swap the tubes and bias it up with a full compliment of NOS Mullard'.:biggrin:

Nice!! Congrats again! They really do well with old tubes. I've got mine outfitted with GE 12AX7s (sounded best to my ears) and Seimens/EL34s.
