Hey Gang,

I know nothing about Norlin era Guitars but I just checked out a 1980 Heritage Orange Burst and I loved it. I can have this guitar for $3,300 canadian. What do you all think. I know it's a Norlin but boy does it play well.

The Vintage Section heading says that it covers "Discussion area for all vintage Les Paul guitars from 1952 to 1960. (Goldtops, Bursts, Customs , Juniors, and Specials)".

I did post a response to your note in the Sunburst section. :)

well, i understand what the room description says, but i asked something else.
why would a 1969 or even a 1980 les paul not considered to be vintage?
is it all about norlin?
or is it something else i smell?....sniff....sniff....

if it is about the owner of the factory, then gibson has a problem now too since the new guy running the biz...

Back to topic... the heritage is a great guitar. I would pay no more than $2500US for it, and really hope to get it for more a round $1800-2000 considering the prices on good used 58 historics these days. My H80 plays and feels super.... and sounds fantastic!

No cork sniffing involved; just a demarcation of discussion areas, that's all. For example, I like vintage LPs and Norlin LPs too, and based on the division of areas I know where to go for discussions of each. The Forum leadership and advisors decided to have a cutoff for the Vintage Section on vintage LPs covering the 50's and 1960 models, since those are considered to be the "classics". We can address any other LPs, including early 60's LPs and even "vintage" Norlins, in this section. For LP Historic models made after mid-93 with the long neck tenon, the Historic District is the suggested Forum area. :wail

you think greg?! :lol

mike, i understand that, but it just is odd that someone with a vintage stock 1969 goldtop of +10k should post here among the studios and classics and not in the vintage section.
maybe add a new section for the vintage norlin les pauls?
maybe not :ahem

It's amazing how a simple question can stray so far off topic. To answer the original question, The Heritage Elite series are considered excellent guitars in terms of build, tone, and aesthetics. I don't think it matters that a Historic model can be had for similar dollars as they're two very different and excellent Lesters. Some Elites have a pretty mild figure while others have really extreme tops, and they will be priced accordingly. You can figure the spread in U.S. dollars to be $2200 to nearly $4000. Don't apologize for it "being a Norlin". You don't see others apologizing for their post '86 weight relieved production Lesters. ;) Everything is good in its own right.

I'm very happy with my Elite.

The LPF Vintage section is the posting area for topics concerning the original run of Les Paul guitars, which was from '52 to '60.

The Sunburst Pub is for discussion of regular production & custom shop LP's from '68 to present. This is where 69 GT's go. Has nothing to do with value, has to do with the fact that they are in the '68-to-now non original run category.

The Historic District is for topics related to the Historic reissue LP's.

The "Other Gibsons" area is a room for all other non-LP Gibson guitars of any year. Early SG models that say "Les Paul" on em go here too.

Let me know if this is still unclear to anyone =)

Well, I'll try again (wrote this in the other thread)...

Since there probably is a good number of H-80 fans here, can you guys answer this for me: why do you prefer a H-80 over a Historic? I've had a few H-80's and I don't know if it's just nostalgia or if I genuinely miss that guitar. At the time I didn't think it compared to my Historic, but you know how that is a moving scale... ;) I find myself starting to GAS for a H-80 lately and I don't know why????

Age doesn't qualify as Vintage. I think the term needs to evolve now that it is 2005 people are selling things from the dark years of Fender and Gibson 1970 1980 and are jacking up the price and calling it Vintage exploiting nostalgia of the so called next generation and casing confusion with good and bad guitars ( Yes call me an ass hole if you want ) the 70's and 80's use to be considered and embarrassment. Some good things did come out of that time but the bad far more the good. And there are plenty of Vintage dealers and enthusiasts that will say this. I don't mean to offend any one Original guitars are absently expensive and I myself had many U.S.A. production Gibson's form the 80's But the Term Vintage is today to vague a term.:2cents
