I just finished this strip-and-recover of a 1972 Hiwatt cab, and it was a real booger. It had been previously recovered, we believe, by an auto-upholstery shop and, while they did an acceptable job, it was just plain ugly because the material wasn't right. After much sweating, frustration and grumbling, I think the owner is gonna be pretty happy with it. It’s an expensive job, but it probably got a nice bump in value having the correct material back on it. Having casters on a 130# cab will be a nice change, too.

Lovely!

I had a '72 cab just like that. PO painted the grill black, so I redid the grill.

Looks great. It is easy to over-tension the cloth- that looks nice. The corners came out really good.
Thanks! It's definitely easy to stretch it too much and tear it. It's SOOOOO thin!

Where did you get the material?

I've got a Custom Tube 20 that needs a re-tolex.
I didn't. The guy who owns the cab bought it from a retired tech who had bought the material, planning to have it recovered at some point. The owner (he's a member here but hasn't been around in a bit) doesn't know where he got it.
