the i Dot on mine is pretty much between the top of the G and b and my logo is lower overall, it's serial is @ 100 lower. I checked out 57 headstocks visible in the Lawrence book, i dot placement is generally lower than this example BUT i dot placement is different on all of them. Handmade guitars made by people who all have their own way of doing things. Individual guitar DNA.
This is an impeccably preserved guitar....wow. Love that case protector, sure hope I can find some repro of that for my Lifton.
The guitar is in great condition but is it a real '57 LP? Can I ask that question?
No, I have never held, let alone been in the same room as a real '50s Les Paul but there appear to be inconsistencies on what I would expect based on photos I've trawled. (Yes, I know that sounds bad!)
The pick guard cut and placement looks wrong. Usually there's a gap around the neck pickup and the space beteen the pickups is filled. The knobs look 'off' but maybe just really new looking. The back looks far too new.
That dot on the 'i' is up there, isn't it? I couldn't recall seeing one like that, so I pulled out my old "Gibson Electrics'' book by A.R. Duchossoir. There is a '55 L-5 and a '57 Les Paul Special that have the dot sitting above the G and b....it would be sitting on a line drawn from the top of the G and the top of the B on those two guitars. I didn't see any as high as this one...but as noted above, the dots are all over the place. A few are near the top of the G and B height-wise and placed very close to the B.
I would have to check out that finish on the mahogany...it seems to be unchecked. Looks fresh, which the top is not.
And...is anyone buying that the frets are original? The pics certainly do not give any indisputable evidence that they are. The one shot that shows the ends is from quite a distance...but I don't see nibs.
