Hi, everyone -

I’d like to add another 50s LP to my arsenal alongside my ‘56 GT, and am looking at a 1955 LPC model but need help valuing it.

It is in 8/10 condition and all original minus a pro re-fret. It has the original case (beat but solid) and some original tags as well.

Great player ~ 9.5lbs.

Can you help me with a value range? I’ve been on the hunt for a mid-50s LPC for a few years but haven’t kept up with with prices the past year due to other distractions.

Many thanks -
M

I would help you if I could, but I haven't been keeping track on these in the last couple of years. I would be interested to hear some opinions as well.

Thanks for the replies.

I’ve seen that ‘53 and it looks very overgraded and is kind of filthy in a bad way. My guess is that more than a few people have passed on that guitar for good reason, it appears to have been exposed to a lot of humidity. It’s certainly not in the VG++++ condition they are claiming!

The asking prices (I’m looking at a few) are in the range of $55-$65k. These are no issues original guitars in 8/10 condition.

I’ve seen a few sell at $40k in the past 6 months but those had issues (filled holes, repairs, etc.). I’m just trying to ascertain where the market is if anyone happens to have an idea :)

Prices are a bit all over the place. As an individual, you get less than what you see a major shop sell for and the asking price isn’t selling price even with them. I would compare to what else can you get for the same money. If I were going to buy a custom it would probably be a Staple pickup custom. My guess is selling price is in the mid 40k US$ but you really don’t know until you are in the market and try and buy or sell one.
