• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

    Nancy Wilson Ibanez Tube Screamer

I don't think MusicMan ever made a Flanger or Phase Shifter. I know MXR did and they were huge in those days. I own a MusicMan RD-100 and I had a HD-130 at one time, but have never recalled seeing any effects from them.

Don’t feel bad, I have never, ever gotten a reply from CS to any message/email I’ve sent in the last 20 years..

    Factory Strings

I don’t know what the Murphy Lab’s come with, but you may want to try out the Pyramid Monel Classis. Gibson use to sell sets of “Mona Steel” strings. Those are Monel! I think they discontinued those in the early 70’s when they went to Hex core and NPS wrapped strings like most U.S. String makers

    Heart used Music Man Amps...

Why would Cameron even have an amp? Until all this Covid stuff, I use to see Howard 4-5 times a year. We have a geeky guitar club that includes Howard & Bonamassa among other folks.. I'll ask him the nexty time I see him..

    EC Collins Pinstripe grill cloth

It's actually an old Rola(alnico) from the `50's. Looks alot like T-652. It says: "Rola G12".

    Clapton's amps through the years

Those EC Amps that Fender makes now for him all have Mercury Magnetics transformers. They are clones of the original 50's transformers.

Midnight Blues; Love that amp! I did the same thing to my 1974x. But I went a little further and replaced all the signal path/coupling caps with the old Mustard caps and installed an RS Mains tranny & a RS Clone output tranny and an Alnico Celestion G12. The tone is just sick!!!

Boutique PAF war: Holmes - Throbak - Ox4

Is there any difference in the makeup of the wire as in Now vs. `50's? I've heard the the copper wire from the `50's> 70's was different as in the makeup of the wire and impurities in the wire. Thanks!

Historically Accurate ABR-1.. Who makes one?

The Kluson ABR-1 is exactly the same as the Gibson one and made in the same facility. It just doesn't say Gibson on the bottom. Same mix of metals: 70% Zinc/30% Aluminium. The Pigtail is the most accurate to the originals. I wonder if they're tried using a mix of Brass and aluminium?

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

If I was the powers that Be @ Gibson, I would Hire Back my friend Ren Ferguson. Ren esentially got the whole Montana Factory up and running 30 years ago, but he's told me that HJ basically tied his hands from going full steam on acoustic's with Hide Glue, etc. I went up there to visit him (my...

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

Mat; I played one in Canada about 10 years ago. All original, impressed s/n# but with a #1 xxxx. It was a a black 2-pickup Custom. It was loaned to me by the producer of a festival we played in Belleville, Ont. He and I have been good friends for 20 years. But I've been around vintage Les Paul's...

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

I have a 2003 Firebird VII! Really a great guitar and I have mostly Vintage parts on it. I can see where the neck through would be a real pain to build cause about 2 years after I got mine they were discontinued. Mine's in a "Copper Mist" finish with an Ebony fingerboard! I replaced the "way out...

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

Nope, not this one.. All the parts were shiny, new looking parts. Like I said, the guitar looked like and old guitar with Brand New parts. The only patina was on the finish, no patina on the metal parts!. I've been working on and playing guitars for nearly 50 years. I know what's been aged and...

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

Matt; Hi! My Murphy Lab R-9, Light Aged I've had about a month. According to the CoA it was made or Q.C'd June 29th. I thought that the guitar itself was well done and plays and sounds amazing, However.. All of the metal parts were shiny new looking. Kind of a disappointment for a guitar that's...

Historically Accurate ABR-1.. Who makes one?

I'm wondering who makes the most accurate ABR-1 with the right metal make-up? I see Faber offers one that's 70% Zinc and 30% Aluminium. I don't know what the composition of the new Historic ABR-1's are, but it would be nice to know. Anyway, I've been looking for a real `50's/early Sixties one...

lets identify exactly how a good vintage burst sounds different than a Historic .....

My friend Paul Smith (Mr. PRS) told me about 30 years ago that the great Les Pauls' were that way on Day One! They came from the Kalamazoo factory as a great guitar.

lets identify exactly how a good vintage burst sounds different than a Historic .....

Not to be a "Debbie Downer", but not every single vintage Burst sounded great.. Some, even back then were duds.. I've played a few mediocre ones and some that were just so-so.. If you have a Historic or even a regular production model and you love it, then enjoy it and play the shit outta it!!

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

Hi Again Mat! I know on my `64 Block Inlay Reissue ES-335 I put in a set of Pat.#'s from a 1965 SG. I did swap out the short magnets with Throbak A-4's and those pickups sound just amazing compared to the Custombucker's. Custombuckers sound thin and wimpy to me. The 335 though is one of the best...
